Holy Shirt

So I found a nice, soft, lovely blue-grey shirt at my favorite thrift store when I was in Portland last week. I didn't buy it, because money is incredibly tight this month, but I'd regretted it ever since, so I went back today to get it.

I'm very, very glad I did.

Ooh pretty! Dang, I wish I'd gone to that thrift store when I was there - would have had to fight you for it, though...

*game face* Bring it, 'Bird!! *grabs shirt and rolls up like a pill bug and locks my arms around my knees* "MINE! MINE!" ;)

As for the thrift shop - next time you're in Portland I'll take you there! It's the William Temple House Thrift Store up in NW Portland, in the Alphabet neighborhood (also called the Nob Hill neighborhood, which always makes me giggle; because yes, I am eight years old). It's part of an overall charity run by some apparently very wealthy Episcopalian ladies, and while the store itself is surprisingly tiny, they get some really nice stuff in...can be expensive, but those 50%-75% off racks are lovely indeed. :)

Also, it's the only place on the planet where I can end up spending more on books than at Powell's... 80

Holy crap, that was a lucky find. Territory Ahead is freaking expensive. O_o

Yes it was, and yes it is; although I can't say I really see why. Sure, you can tell it's a good quality item, but it's got just as many loose threads and stray stitching around the buttonholes as most cheaper clothes I've seen. Yes, it is wonderfully warm and soft and cozy, but they've got some cheek asking $120 for it if you ask me.

That said, it is an amazingly comfy shirt, and the thing I'm most boggled by is the fact that nobody bought it for at least three months...that's how long I think it would have taken for its color tag to come round to the 50% off rack. And even THEN nobody bought it ON DISCOUNT for at least three weeks. It's almost like it hung there all that time going, "Not you...not you...nope, not for you...come on, Q, get your ass down here and buy me already!"

I've never understood the need to buy outrageously expensive clothes. You're buying the label/designer name, not the actual outfit. I went to Neiman Marcus Last Call last spring and saw a ballgown that was marked down to $1000...from $10,000. That's obscene! The most I've ever paid for anything was $180- a formal gown for my college recital. That at least included the alterations.

That said, my sister's wedding gown cost upwards of $5,000 to make (with Mom doing the sewing), and that was almost 25 years ago!!
