so, can we all agree that columbus day is, like, the most useless holiday ever?most people still have to go to work, so it's only the government monkeys who see any benefits. and not only does it glorify the man who many people feel is responsible for initiating a genocide, but - MUCH more importantly - it screws up the postal system with its extra ( Read more... )

Oh, is it Columbus day? I was going to the post office! Crap. I'm mailing a painting and I said I'd get it out today.

I think the most useless bit is the drama over whether or not Columbus landing in America is something to celebrate. I've read not one good thing about Columbus, ever. But if it hadn't been him it would have been someone else, and anyway he landed in the Caribbean more than 300 years before the genocide really got underway in North America, so is it really worth all the arguments over it?

see, this right here is the whole thing, for me. i mean, what else did the man really do that's worth celebrating? and i don't really have an opinion on the whole columbus controversy one way or the other - i eats my turkey every thanksgiving, thankyouverymuch - but i can understand why native americans would be a little miffed at celebrating his 'discovery'.

well, it's actually the post office i need, since it's a postal money order. good to know there are some banks open on this the most annoying of all federal holidays, though...i take it as a good sign that if we all ignore it, eventually it'll just go away.

Why do you hate Glenn Beck? Besides the obvious reasons.

* Which is probably not true at all or is at most a concurrent local holiday in some podunk town.
