I think the most useless bit is the drama over whether or not Columbus landing in America is something to celebrate. I've read not one good thing about Columbus, ever. But if it hadn't been him it would have been someone else, and anyway he landed in the Caribbean more than 300 years before the genocide really got underway in North America, so is it really worth all the arguments over it?

see, this right here is the whole thing, for me. i mean, what else did the man really do that's worth celebrating? and i don't really have an opinion on the whole columbus controversy one way or the other - i eats my turkey every thanksgiving, thankyouverymuch - but i can understand why native americans would be a little miffed at celebrating his 'discovery'.
