so, what did YOU do today?

today was largely spent going from one place to another (and one bus to another) in a vain attempt to get the washington state health system to actually fucking work. really, i felt like billy in one of those family circus cartoons, although sadly there wasn't a witty one-liner when i finally got to the end of the dots.

this is how it went (with possibly a bit of kitty TMI):

  • got four hours' sleep. woke up hella early to find that miyuki had mistaken her carrier for a sewer once again.* spent a considerable portion of the morning cleaning cat piss and cat shit out of said carrier, said cat, and the bathtub.
  • decided, some two and a half weeks after doing something really unpleasant to my wrist, to call the medical supply place to see if the jackass doctor was lying about wrist splints not being covered by my insurance. he was; they are. was also told that oh, by the way, my primary insurance is suddenly changing its coverage in april (ie TOMORROW) and splints will no longer be covered. ??!?!??!! spent a while making frantic phone calls trying to get the doctor's office to fax a prescription for wrist splints over. jackass doctor is annoyed with me for showing up his ignorance re: insurance covering them and briefly shattering his massive god complex, and says no, my pain is mild enough that i don't need wrist supports. hello? the ache goes all the way through my elbow and up to my shoulder...in exactly whose befuckled little brain does this constitute 'mild'??? grrrr.
  • went to a different doctor at an urgent care place across town to get prescription for wrist splints. took 2 hours but i eventually got it. whoohoo! in your FACE, jackass doctor!
  • went to medical supply place. was told that people with my particular wrist annoyance usually get arm bands rather than wrist splints. tried one; pain vanished almost instantly. bugger.
  • went back to different!doctor at urgent care to get a prescription for arm bands instead. due to medical supply place employee boneheadedly telling different!doctor something completely different than she told me (that they're used to treat tennis elbow, and not tendonitis/carpal tunnel - they're actually used for both) he said no. my one satisfaction was that at least i'd already picked up the wrist splints...well, one of them, anyway. they had a left-hand size small but no right. but, the left wrist is the sorest, so, yay for getting help where it's needed most. on the downside, will now have to take HELLACIOUSLY LONG bus ride back to medical supply place to pick up the right-hand splint whenever it does come in, along with - hopefully - the arm bands. double grrrr. will also have to make an appointment with a pt, get a note from them saying that the arm bands make the pain stop completely, and make an appointment with a Yet Another Different primary care doctor (which is almost impossible with my insurance) to write a scrip for the arm bands - except it can't be a doctor at the place i usually go, because that place is owned by the jackass!doctor, and none of the other doctors there can go against what he said about my not needing a wrist splint because my pain wasn't bad enough and i could just buy some myself - all of which could take several weeks while my wrists are still hurting in the meantime. triple grrrr!
  • went to community center to pick up my bus pass, as i suspect i shall skip my appointment there tomorrow in favor of having a mental health day instead (aka a 'fuck, i hope i'm not getting the flu' day, aka a 'fuck off world, you're not worth the bother today' day). got pass. hooray, something actually accomplished!
  • came home utterly knackered...only to find that miyuki had done one of her massive, copious, spewed-from-the-bowels-of-hell hairball vomits all over the entryway. cleaned and soaked the rug with enzyme remover as best i could, swearing fluently, but the stain and the mess are still largely there. glared at cat. made more fruitless phone calls.
  • made food. ate.
  • whinged about horrible day on computer.
on the upside, the one wrist splint i did manage to wrangle from the clutches of the evil unaccommodating universe today did actually help quite a bit. it's a wee little one, just my size; with a lot of support right at the wrist joint itself instead of annoyingly all spread out from your knuckles to your elbow. am still angry at the jackass doctor, though...call me naive, but i thought medical benefits were created to try and help people with a low income afford decent medical care? but no, i'm supposed to suffer just so the jackass doctor can save face. fuck off, jackass doctor with your god complex. i hope you get a rhino horn enema.

oh, and another upside...was told that my secondary insurance will still cover wrist splints (and arm bands) even if my primary doesn't. so all my frantic scrabblings today were for naught...but, still, yay that they're covered, i guess.

anyway. wish me luck in getting the pt at least to see sense...this is one of those areas where rich people who can just walk into a store and buy whatever they need have NO IDEA what life is like for the vast majority of the rest of us. wanker rich people.

(NOTE: i just realized this could be misconstrued as a plea for financial help getting the wrist/arm bands. it's not, really. i WILL get them soonest through the proper channels (really, i will. oh yes...it's personal at this point). this is just me having a good wallow and complaining for the sheer joy of complaining. remember, sweet, sweet bitching makes everything better)

*wtf, miyuki's vet?? you think it's not an infection, but you don't think she's doing it because she's upset about something either? i call bullshit. or rather catshit.

EDIT: wahey, something else accomplished: made bullet list on lj for the very first time. HA! go me! take that, stupid bad horrible day. INYA!

kill it!, wah, grrrr, illin', rant in e minor
