We went to the dmz that day. Really, it was a tourist center for older koreans, since younger koreans don't bother to visit. I just find that really sad.
I don't know a whole lot about it, but Sean's dad patroled the DMZ during the war. Sean has so many stories about the kinds of things they did there. You guys should talk some time!
all korean men have to go through two years of military service, though people find ways of getting out of it. we're just hoping to get my brother us citizenship before they come callin'
Yeah. He was born in 1939. He's not Korean, though. Sean's mom is. Here's hoping your brother gets US citizenship before they come knocking. I understand why they do it, but I wouldn't want my brother to do it, either.
Yeah, I enjoy taking pictures of elderly people more then the younger people, I think it's because the elderly show their emotions more, it's in their wrinkles (is that mean to say? lol).
That place seems really interesting, cool stuff =)
see how most of the people here are older? the younger generation is less inclined toward reunification, more anti-american.
Yeah, I've been saying for a while that the longer we put off reunification, it's exponentially less likely to happen. The younger generation has NO memory of one Korea, and obviously for that reason feels less inclined to support a process that will be long and economically burdensome.
Which makes me STILL bitter about some very anti-North Korean remarks Bush made in the first few WEEKS of his presidency six years ago - reunification talks had been making some interesting progress up to that point with some agreements being hashed out and worried over, and they stopped immediately after Bush's comments. And that was six years ago. Oy.
That's a good point about the disinterest of younger Korean generations, and something I never thought of before today. I hope things turn around in '08.
