Summary: You can't always get what you want, or in Junhyung's case, you can never get what you want.
Doojoon's alarm goes off at exactly four a.m. Junhyung groans, the first to react as always, and wishes for a split second he could go back to the days when he didn't have to do anything on his birthday. He sighs dreamily, remembering how he used to sleep in, hang out with his friends all day, eat whatever he wanted. His fantasy doesn't last long with the obnoxious beeping echoing in his ears, but he enjoys it nonetheless.
Slowly he rolls himself out of his bed, scowling at his bandmates, still fast asleep despite Doojoon's alarm. He climbs up the end of Gikwang's bed and slaps at Doojoon's legs. The leader mumbles something in his sleep and shifts his legs out of the way, causing the small alarm clock to tumble from his pile of stuffed animals and land on his face with a dull thunk. Junhyung continues slapping as his eyes gradually blink open, squinting at the annoying device resting on his forehead.
"I'm up, I'm up," he mumbles, forcing himself into a sitting position. Junhyung climbs down and rubs his eyes, shaking Dongwoon and Gikwang one by one as Doojoon starts on Yoseob and Hyunseung above.
The others are still dragging themselves out of bed, so Junhyung slips into the bathroom, crossing his fingers he can get in a shower before the others. He can't remember the last time he showered by himself, and it seems a simple enough gift he can give himself on his birthday. He turns on the water and strips quickly, sighing as the hot water hits his skin. Rolling his shoulders, he tries to work out the knots and aches when he hears the bathroom door slam open. Four chattering voices echo in the tiled room and Junhyung closes his eyes, shaking his head as four bodies join him in the now-crowded shower.
"Stop hogging the water," Yoseob grumbles, shoving into Junhyung's side. He frowns and smacks Yoseob's arm, but moves aside.
"Yoseob, pick up those ramen cups and put them in the trash. Gikwang, hurry up and put on a shirt, we're leaving in five minutes. Doojoon, ignore Yoseob and wash the dishes. Yoseob, stop bothering Doojoon and clean up those damn cups!"
He wishes like hell he didn't have to put up with this today.
Yoseob glares at Junhyung as he finally complies, but Junhyung is beyond caring. Dongwoon has somehow gone missing and he hopes like hell he's in the bedroom somewhere, preferably not asleep. He moves around a very disgruntled-looking Yoseob to check, almost running into Hyunseung as he leaves the laundry room carrying a stack of folded shirts. "S-sorry," he mumbles and Hyunseung gives him a small grin before moving around him. At least there was one person he didn't have to worry about. He sighs and resumes his search for Dongwoon, only to find him passed out in Gikwang's bed.
The final item on their schedule for the day is a rehearsal for SBS Gayo Daejun. After hours of dancing and practicing their fight choreography, Junhyung collapses against the mirrored wall, wiping the sweat from his eyes. The other boys break off into smaller groups, none of them coming to join him. He can't really blame them, he's been nagging them all day and giving them no reason to want to talk to him or be around him. He smirks to himself- his plan was working perfectly.
After all, what he wants more than anything is for his birthday is for it to go by forgotten.
Just as the thought passes through his mind, the room goes dark and he knows it was a pointless wish. Yoseob pulls him to his feet and he's surrounded by not only his members, but by the 4minute girls as well. He can't help but smile, because it's not that bad. Their managers bring in a cake, the light of the candles bouncing off the mirrored walls. Yoseob has his arms around his shoulders and Doojoon is saying something to the video camera their manager is holding. The girls cheer and he blows out the candles, struggling to keep a straight face. Everyone is laughing and the noise echoes off the walls creating even more noise. He laughs, too, but is aware of a quiet presence behind him decked out in flashy pink glasses and a black beanie. He glances over and Hyunseung just continues to smile with a dazed expression, awkward and not completely there.
Junhyung turns back and wishes he had the confidence.
