Appreciating Tchaikovsky

Aug 28, 2009 21:40

Now I have always handwaved away Tchaikovsky's talents as "that dude who wrote all those ballets" and not given his works a second glance. Having just caught the Proms on BBC4 tonight, I've been proven wrong. The pieces Variations on a Rococo Theme (with a superb cellist) and Francesca da Rimini are just sublime! They even inspired me to invent a ( Read more... )

Oh, no no no, Tchaikovsky is great! I always enjoy listening to him. I'm glad you've seen the error of your ways. :P

Are there exercises you can do to strengthen your neck and back? This may be the pot calling the kettle black, but, you better do them, missy. ~_^

Also, "concierge?" Do you live in some swanky hotel? o_O

Yes, I do have exercises, but have been specifically forbidden from doing them at the mo, as the muscles are too inflammed and tense, and exercises will only exacerbate them. Have been advised to utilise my four days leave to rest up completely (which, let's face it, isn't going to happen). Have been given permission to be online though, as long as body and laptop are in correct positioning.

Um, yeah, I live in a kind of a gated community, with a group of apartment blocks in a London 'heritage site'. It's not as cool as it sounds, honestly. But we do pay quite a bit in maintenance, for which we (usually) get a pretty decent service.

Tchikovsky was the dude who got me into classical music in the first place. Especially the fourth symphony. Speaking of which, I think I'll go and listen to it now.

You take care of that back/neck/shoulders. Naughty Pythia.

And remember yours is an open invitation, should you want wine and coddling.

Ack, sorry. Didn't mean to be insulting of his work, I was just never that enamoured before.

I'll try. It's difficult when every move (sitting position, lying position) has to be orchestrated according to physio's instruction.

Thank you, darling. Won't be able to in the next few months, unfortunately, but I'll keep it in mind if things get too rough.

Wow, don't you like the ballet stuff? I always find Tchaikovsky's music makes you want to dance.

I must listen to the pieces you mention, though. I've not heard those ones before.

Careful with that back!

Oh, I completely forgot you were a ballet enthusiast. That is one art form that have never been able to get into, for some reason. The one performance I have really enjoyed is a gay production of Swan Lake I saw some years ago. Odd, but cool.

Thanks!

I know the version you mean, it is very good.

If you liked that - you might like this: Les Ballets Trockadero, men in drag doing very campy comedic ballet.:
