Today I went down to the garage to get into my car, and noticed to my horror that both my and unsound's bike racks were empty; I called him in a panic as I was driving away from the garage to say that I thought our bikes had been stolen but that I had to go to work and couldn't investigate further

From the security video, we can see that they didn't use the keypad to get into the door--it looks like they either had a dummy key or just used a tool to open the door.
