I kinda bitched about this on Twitter earlier (and many, many times before) but I don't think 140 characters is enough to explain myself

And, it seems like OGYD has replaced dears. There are so few posts to dears lately that it's kinda sad. I stepped out of my comfort zone to go the extra step to join OGYD (not as scary as I thought) because it seems like dears had died an I was missing ALL the news. Yet it's still important because OGYD doesn't do sales posts. It's an important archive, but it's barely got a pulse anymore :'( And part of that is: who wants 2 of the same posts in a row on their f-page? Maybe something could be worked out between the 2?
(OMG!! TARDIS user icon there! *nerdy giggle*)
(sorry for the edits ^^;) the fact that LJ has been megaretarded for a significant amount of time has probably bolstered twitter usage as well. And general NOW NOW!! and yet at the same time laziness of people.
I don't know if its so much about keeping the news to themselves (although I suppose there could be some who think like that) as the fact that it takes a lot more time and energy to make an LJ post than it does to tweet about it (not to mention you need a computer for LJ but only a phone for Twitter), and most people just want to squee (or ugh) at the new thing with as little time or effort involved. Probably most people are like me and just waiting for someone else to post it.
I don't know if this is a good solution since I don't really want to put even more work on the OGYD mods but perhaps a weekly roundup could at least stop stuff from slipping through the cracks and going entirely unnoticed by non-Twitterites.
It would be an awful lot of work to do a weekly round up post like that... there could be a way of doing it that wouldn't be quite as much work though.
well said! i am almost not in my TL beucase i just use twitter to chat, not really keep up with the fandom, its for my pwersonal use, fandom for me is here on LJ, and i like it that way ^^
So true. I already don't check LJ often enough, so Twitter is just impossible when it comes to G news. It's still Dears & OGYD for me when I need to catch up on the fandom, and also because I do enjoy reading long rambles/discussions. Here's hoping Twitter doesn't kill LJ! *sips on my cup of Earl Grey*
Yeah, I really do hope more people would just feel comfortable about posting in OGYD (or Dears). It's really not a big deal, nobody's going to bite them or anything. :'3
As a MOD, I already post a decent number there, and I really want to encourage the members to contribute instead of waiting for the MODs or the same few members to post the latest news. I mean, it really should be the members posting most of the time, not the MODs.
It'd be nice to see more different people posting, but I don't think it matters if it's a member or a MOD who posts. We're all still members when it comes down to it, although I can see that having a comm where the majority of posts comes from MODs could be scary for people who want to post.
