Almost forgot to ask this... If you still have copies, could you bring the new Pyrate CD with you this weekend? And yours, of course, if you have a homebrew available. If not, we'll wait patiently for your minions to get their heads out of their asses :)
I can definitely bring you a Pyrate CD. I have plenty of those! My CD, though, not so much. I sold all of my homebrew copies and I don't want to make Glenn make anymore.
I'm glad it was such a great show for you! And now I'm very sorry that we didn't go to the meet-n-greet, but, well, we went out with friends for sushi that night, and they wouldn't let us pay! Best Friends EVER (tm)! It was wonderful to get to spend some time with you on the last Sunday night too *hugs* See you at SoMD!
You've now made me wonder if the hammered dulcimer would be a good instrument for my Dad to try. He used to play the organ, banjo, lap steel, mandolin, guitar, piano, and probably more, but ever since he had surgery on his hands for carpal tunnel, he's not been able to play as much. I'm thinking now he's only got the mandolin and a guitar or two. Then again, he has trouble feeling or holding thing sometimes, so I wonder if the (insert technical term for boingy things) would be too hard to him to hold.
You don't need a hard grip, because the key is to hold the hammers lightly. You do need precision, though, and I don't know how your father's surgery would affect that.
The best thing for him to do would be to try out a hammered dulcimer at a shop or a festival where they're available to try. Any festival where House of Musical Traditions has a booth, they usually have a hammered dulcimer for sale. Including Southern Maryland Celtic Festival, by the way! (Also, MDRF)
We made David (of Dawn&David) cranky at a craft fair once when he was boasting that he could pick up any instrument and play a scale. I pointed him to a hammered dulcimer, and he spent 10 minutes trying before he gave up in frustration.
Wow, Darcy, that is incredible. I wish I could have seen and heard you out there on a limb, on your own, playin' and singin' for the troops. And That Gaelic Song just makes my knees tremble to hear it. Mmmmm.

Oh, this is Number Nine...
We drank a lot of wine.
I'm glad that he's not mine.
He really made me whine.
At least he's not a mime.
