FOUR SCORE AND SEVEN DAYS AGO, more or less, nextian had an idea. The world will little note, nor long remember the way that school, work, heat waves, cold snaps, car trouble, assholes, and weekdays are getting us all down. But it cannot forget the awesome we do for each other. I hereby consecrate this ground to 1860s facial hair and the

Nahia glances up to see Oliver Wolf tugging someone in by the right hand, past the various entanglements at the tables and then past her. "We want a room," Wolf says, breathless, his accent pitched as high as it will social-climb. "And, eh, her, my usual. Quick." He laughs (something inaudible close to the man's ear); she winds through the tables, delivers him his drink.

"Isn't she pretty," Wolf demands, taking elaborate hold of her shoulders. His fingers splay across her lock. "Isn't she? Oh, stop looking so terrible and bland, I promise I'll pay you attention too, Gravenor.Gravenor does not sulk ( ... )

"No," Thomas says. "I need to think. Jesus Christ, Thom ( ... )

This got more dramatic than intended.

~

"Aw, c'mon, man," Rhodes says, turning the phone over in his hand, "you know I can't take gifts like that."

Tony shrugs. "Birthday present. When's your birthday again? Oh, never mind, Pepper'll tell me. Or maybe already told me. Maybe it is your birthday, and you don't even know."

"Hey," Rhodes says. "You know, anything you need."

"Yeah, don't say stuff like that," Tony says, with an embarrassed laugh, and without really meaning to, kisses him. It seems like the next thing to do in the conversation and at first he expects that kind of a reaction, Rhodey swatting back or something. Instead Rhodes' throat works and he goes so still that Tony settles too.

The hangar they're standing in is huge, empty, silent. It's quieter because outside he can faintly hear the wind in the sand.

Steampunk (American) Civil War + Iron Man = pure unadulterated AWESOME? I THINK SO.

Or Felix with tattoos.

This is, um, weird.

~

After they are complete he goes to Belgium for the first time, James Rogers working over his way from France. They're owed vacation time so they see a prostitute and Felix peels off the patch at the wrong time and she spends the whole session wondering why he has a snake tattoo wound round his neck. But this does not matter, because the next day, he finds the traitor, and puts his hand to the man's throat, and watches, impressed, as it does his job for him.

So, yes: he enjoys the tattoos. He enjoys that if he does not want James to drink him under the table, he leaves the patch on. Sometimes they change to candlesticks; it has nothing to do with him.

Sometimes, with Claire, the lights turned low, he thinks he may have her ace of spades and she may be bedecked in his crosses from his spine, but when they separate the tattoos have always gone back, politely, to where they belong.

1. MARVEL: I am sort of jonesing for Rhodes fic that does not have Tony in. I am also jonesing for Tony Stark/Peter Parker time-travel where Peter takes Tony's virginity fic of any kind, as long as it is not a fic in which Peter Parker is being controlled by nanobots, because I swear to you before god that is the only kind of Peter I have hitherto seen.

2. EYAI: anything. ANYTHING.

3. HAHAH, SARES: Tattoos on James. She knows what I mean.

4. ICONS: I would love a silly-face icon, for when this is necessary.

5. HUGS: it can be tiemz nao?

1. This is Emma's fault: HISTORICAL RPF OR RPS. It's the only kind that doesn't squick me. Big on my list are Owen/Sassoon, Sherman/Grant, T. E. Lawrence (movieverse is good too), Henry II and his family, Richard III, Captain Scott's last expedition. If none of these float your boat, either use some you know I like but have forgotten, or pick a historical event or period and stick some original characters there; that would also be wonderful.

2. ANY music that you think will help me make it through tedious hours at the office. I've acquired all the New Pornographers now, but everything else is wide open. PLEASE.

2) Due to things, stuff and wossnames, I'm going to say check iTunes or similar before seeking downloads, BUT.
Vampire Weekend and Elf Power.
Picked them up in the radio station this past semester and they're both EXCELLENT.

While I do, actually, like Vampire Weekend quite a lot, this post, which also has a great discussion of appropriation (relevant!), has some actual African music. All the Angelique Kidjo is extremely toe-tapping and, Polaris, I think you will particularly enjoy.

2. HOW MUCH CAKE DO YOU HAVE? This is an important question. Meanwhile, I will give you a song I am pretty sure you don't have: Stickshifts & Safetybelts.
