FOUR SCORE AND SEVEN DAYS AGO, more or less, nextian had an idea. The world will little note, nor long remember the way that school, work, heat waves, cold snaps, car trouble, assholes, and weekdays are getting us all down. But it cannot forget the awesome we do for each other. I hereby consecrate this ground to 1860s facial hair and the

1. This is Emma's fault: HISTORICAL RPF OR RPS. It's the only kind that doesn't squick me. Big on my list are Owen/Sassoon, Sherman/Grant, T. E. Lawrence (movieverse is good too), Henry II and his family, Richard III, Captain Scott's last expedition. If none of these float your boat, either use some you know I like but have forgotten, or pick a historical event or period and stick some original characters there; that would also be wonderful.

2. ANY music that you think will help me make it through tedious hours at the office. I've acquired all the New Pornographers now, but everything else is wide open. PLEASE.

2) Due to things, stuff and wossnames, I'm going to say check iTunes or similar before seeking downloads, BUT.
Vampire Weekend and Elf Power.
Picked them up in the radio station this past semester and they're both EXCELLENT.

While I do, actually, like Vampire Weekend quite a lot, this post, which also has a great discussion of appropriation (relevant!), has some actual African music. All the Angelique Kidjo is extremely toe-tapping and, Polaris, I think you will particularly enjoy.

2. HOW MUCH CAKE DO YOU HAVE? This is an important question. Meanwhile, I will give you a song I am pretty sure you don't have: Stickshifts & Safetybelts.

iTunes informs me that I have the follow in possession by Cake: "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" "Guitar" "When You Sleep" "Hem of Your Garment" "Cool Blue Reason" "Ruby Don't Take Your Love etc" and "Mrs Robinson."

Then also: Love You Madly, Shadow Stabbing, Short Skirt/Long Jacket, and Someone to Fall Back On which is not Cake by any stretch of the imagination but which, if you do not have, you should.

Oh Jason Robert Brown, will you never stop telling us things about our psyche that we did not really need to hear out loud, but now are so catchy we cannot stop singing along with?

this song may or may not occasionally make me cry

Do you have more by him, and can I have it?

When I get home I will upload you things.

Only this. Which is even more awesome, but luckily less heart-rending.

God I love/hate how my instinctive response to your first line was "IT'S A LIE". *facepalms*

2. Soundtrack to The Commitments, Paul Simon's Graceland, Kate Nash: Made of Bricks, Mika Life in Cartoon Motion, Scissor Sisters - anything, OK Go (unlike Cillian Murphy, I happily sell out), Kaiser Chiefs (anything).

I can upload most of those. And I second Vampire Weekend, except...I am currently experiencing severe Vampire Weekend backlash. But other than that!

I have Graceland, Scissors Sisters, and Kaiser Chiefs-- I am good for everything else. In fact I am desperate; I spend eight hours as a paper slave every day and the music is all that keeps me sane.

Before I make my move, should I convert to mp3 or are mp4 okay?

Since you have Graceland, do you want Rhythm of the Saints/Simon and Garfunkel stuff? I don't have all their music, but I have a lot. But you might have them already! Like, The Beatles. I have a lot of Beatles songs, but who doesn't?

OH AND THE ZOMBIES. LET ME INDOTRINATE YOU INTO THE ZOMBIES, PLZ.
