We just saw Hair on Saturday (Mark, my sister Meredith and I). We were lucky to get 8th row center seats the day of the performance. Wasn't it fabulous! Then we were lucky enough to exit right next to the stage door and were some of the first people on line for autographs. We managed to get most of the cast including the two leads who played Claude and Berger!
We saw the same Claude then. The actor playing Berger was the one who normally played Woof. All I can say there is that our Berger was amazing, I can't imagine what the role would have been like with the one originally cast!
I do have to say that Hair has never been my favorite show... I guess it's something that's better seen live than a movie or just listening to it.
I also love one of the actor's comments in the Q&A afterward. Upon being complimented on their energy level the actor said "Yah, we're just acting high, I don't think a lot of them in the original cast were..."
We saw all of the normal cast except for the woman who played Sheila. And her understady was amazing. I'm sure the actor who plays Woof would have done a great job as Berger - but I adored the actor who played Berger!
I grew up listening to Hair and already knew all the lyrics. It was really great to see how the songs fit the show. I was especially moved by "What a Piece of Work is a Man" which has always been one of my favorite songs (and I am a big fan of Hamlet too!) but I found it even more intense in the context of the show.
I thought the energy and the talent of the actors was amazing. They managed to show both great joy and real pathos at the end.
Oh, that final image at the end, damn! It was amazing.
Very much like Godspell, and JCS, but they a)all have similar themes and b) were all done around the same time so they're bound to influence each other.
I had a total costume orgasm at the Margret Mead breakaway dress.
