That's not a stupid question. They're degus. I hadn't heard of them until a friend contacted me about adopting these two.

Degus are rodents, yet have many similarities to rabbits. They are native to Chile.

Yes, he's a Japanese squirrel. Those are tufts of hair behind his ears. His ears aren't oversized.

hey - thanks for noticing. I keep meaning to post it... but I've been too lazy. One funny thing: the reporter asked us if we were previously married to opposites or the same. We had both been married to the same. It was good for me but my husband said neither of them would answer the phone or go to the teacher conference - too scary for the two introverts.

Yay for Buffy and Willow! :D I love your photos of Risu, but I've been missing seeing photos of your equally cute degus. So it was cool to see them again. They look very sweet and gentle; are they? How are they in terms of intelligence? I love their whiskers and their cute little hands ( ... )

I forgot to mention that sometimes when Blueberry is sitting on my shoulder, I lean my ear onto him and listen to his heartbeat! It's hard to hear it, though, because he's generally eating something crunchy at the same time. *giggle* Did you have that same problem listening to Risu's heart?

Jellybean sits on my shoulder sometimes too, but he doesn't feel as sure of himself as his brother, and he doesn't generally sit there for very long, so it's much easier for me to put my ear to Berrykins. He couldn't care less! ;D In fact, sometimes he'll even turn and sniff my ear! LOL Talk about ticklish!!
