IN WHICH ANITA GETS FINGERED
Jean-Claude fixes his hair after wisely refusing help andthe tail end of the bathtub sequence reveals that Micah isn't the only one who isn't an exhibitionist. He doesn't name names, but if the significant glances and fang marks on his neck are anything to go by Jean-Claude is a little tired of the group activities, too. Anita herself has always preferred smaller groups for sexcapades so it seems Nathaniel is the only one who really wants the orgies. Anita only does it out of necessity, and to keep her lovers happy.
(Minus Jade, but that is another time and book.)
So, in a move that seems suspiciously convenient Micah suggests they “divide and conquer” the two offended lovers. Micah drags Nathaniel off for tub make-up sex. Anita takes Jean-Claude to the bedroom after laying down a towel so his wet hair doesn't ruin the silk sheets. It should be noted that the bath towel also matches the sheets. Again, I ask, who the fuck is in charge of Jean-Claude's linen closet? Does he pick out the colors himself? Does he have an Amazon Prime subscription and does the vampire equivalent of getting drunk and ordering a crap ton of bedding and bathing supplies? At this point I would not be surprised if the guest toilet also had bath tissue that was died to match the décor.
With the niceties taken care of Anita gets down to business, and by that I mean she goes down on Jean-Claude. It's actually one of the better sex scenes I've seen by Hamilton, probably because of the editing that went into the book. Alas, penis, dick, and cock are words that don't appear to be in Hamilton's vocabulary. Despite that consistent flaw there is one bit that just seems weird to me as Anita practically orgasms strictly from rubbing the tip of Jean-Claude's dick against the roof of her mouth (p.74). If this is her G-Spot, G stands for Gulp?
I'll admit I've never sucked someone off, and have never had the desire to, but I cannot see how doing such a thing would be that enjoyable.
After teasing Jean-Claude with oral the vampire turns the tables and flips Anita onto her back so he dip his fingers in the well of her sweet spot. That's what LKH calls it. I get what's going on, but the repeated use of sweet spot for both her clit and her G-spot throws off the immersion. To quote Anita, “...he was working both at the same time, but the inner spot always distracted me from the outer, so that doing both didn't really work for me, and he knew that.” (p.75)
This sex scene, while refreshingly consensual, doesn't really work for me.
Jean-Claude keeps Anita on the edge until she promises not to tease him anymore, and then he puts her through her paces with the wonders of clitoral stimulation. Then Jean-Claude asks for her to bring her metaphysical shields down as he gives her a good dicking, and she does, so Jean-Claude has a seizure while balls deep and we get some crazy mind meld thing going on. It's a fairly loving and caring scene all told, but suffers from repeated uses of blue, ocean, and light. Jean-Claude is a sexy merman who has a sea in his eyes. We Get It.
As part of the sexy mind meld Anita experience's Jean-Claude's sensations as her own. Such fits with the maturation of a Vampire-Human bond as it has been described in the past, and I enjoy the implications of such a thing. I love the intimacy. There is, however, one bit during the meld that brings up several questions and I can't decide if the line was written intentionally or if it is a typo.
“We lay there relearning how to breathe together. I felt the small sharp pains where her nails had cut my back. I felt his heart fluttering frantically against my body. I felt my body buried deep inside the warm, wet tightness of her. It had been centuries since I'd had a body that could be inside a woman, and then I knew it wasn't my thought, or my body, and for a second I didn't know whose body I was supposed to be in; was I him or her? What the fuck was happening?”(p.76-77)
That bit in the bold? That is what I'm talking about. Anita has always been a human woman, so what is this crap about centuries? As for Jean-Claude, well, he is a man so I don't know what could have happened to prevent him from fucking a chick. I know Nicholas tried to loan him out to Narcissus but I cannot believe that all his previous masters only let him feed the arduer off of males. The third possibility that I find more likely is that there is a third mind, possibly the remnants of the Mother of All Darkness, that is lurking around and was woken up by the lowering of the mental shields. We know she'd had a stupid ass plan to get Anita pregnant through the power of unprotected group sex in Skin Trade in order to take over the developing fetus' body. It is highly likely that she had done this before and her spirit inhabited a male body at some point previously. As the Vampire Council demonstrates, Marmee Noir had the ability to split her power and possess/feed through multiple people at once. Since Anita willingly took Marmee Noir's power into herself... pretty sure JC just unknowingly engaged in a ménage à trois.
