At least I’m not as stupid as that slut Emerald. The Dark Ages are obviously the place to find brats who don’t know anything about their magic. The grown man with the impressive glower brooding in a comically too small swing was given a wide berth by all the school children on the playground even before he started moving his hands through the air in arcane symbols.
The glow of magical potential took his gaze down to the parking lot, where a young girl was going something to a car. Why would someone want to remove the water from a car’s tank? But it was some brown liquid. Maybe these old cars used something else.
Another slightly older girl ran over and they started giggling, he thought. She had almost as much magic in his vision. Was the spell malfunctioning? No, he looked around at the children nearer to him and they showed no light.
An even older girl marched over dragged another girl by the hand and must have been telling them off because they bowed their heads and went where she pointed. Surreptitiously, she took the bottle anyway.
He couldn’t be sure but family resemblance might explain why each girl showed more untapped magic than the last. They couldn’t be more than between fifteen and eleven years old and their shirts were grayed from many washings and their skirts patched.
Hah. This was too easy. He’d enchant them with promises of wealth and power and if half of them weren’t in love with him by the time they got to Nemesis he’d eat Emerald’s boa.
