Letting the Terrorists Win

Oct 04, 2008 00:00

I've been up to my neck in politics all day.  Still upset and crying over the ridiculous bailout that's going to cost all of us-- every person in the USA, adults and children, $2500.  I just watched Bill Maher and they discussed a point that I think has been sorely missed in all of the election nonsense and economic crisis and gloom and doom and ( Read more... )

Hmmmm, I do not think it is all so fire and brimstone.

We went to "war" because Dubya wanted to occupy Iraq for a myriad of reasons. It was convenient (and I refuse to give in to conspiracy theories) to be able to use the Trade Center attacks to lull the US into thinking there was another reason.

Our economy has always cycled. Being so in debt over the "war" doesn't help, of course...but it would cycle without it. The mortgage crisis would exist without it.

You are right that we let it happen, but it is us who crumbled the economy. We voted Bush in - twice. We did/do not try to bring him up on charges for his crimes.

But my question is really: how are we going to fix this mess we are in?

I don't think we ever elected Bush. It's common knowledge that he lost the popular vote the first time. The second time, there was enough funny business with disenfranchisement and voter issues that I'm pretty sure he wasn't elected that time either.

Well, of course, but we never elect any president. But people still voted for him...and his dad. I really don't blame the state of today on terrorists

The truly frustrating thing is that people like myself marched against that stupid war before it even started. Lots of us did in fact. Yet the anti-war movement was barely even covered in the media until, let's see, 2006 when the Democrats finally won back the House and Senate and the media got a damn clue that a big reason was due to most of us being against the war. As for the notion that Bush was voted in twice, well, the first time he stole it and I think it's possible (Ohio) he might have stolen it the second time as well. It also frustrates the hell out of me that in fact lots of us have been and continue to be behind the impeachment movement. Yet that pretty much never gets covered ( ... )

Funny what a week can do isn't it. The media is no longer talking "recession" and we've gone straight to using the word "depression" when talking about the collapse of our economy.

Remember the Clinton years? The balanced budgets. I really don't give a rat's ass who is blowing the president when our economy is stable and thriving. Seriously.

I was just thinking about all those "economic stimulus" checks that were sent out. Where would we be if the president hadn't felt it necessary to bribe the American people?

That John Titor stuff you sent me isn't looking so far fetched now, you know?

I love you for being upset enough to cry over this bailout. I'm mad and nauseated.

I'm absolutely terrified. Wondering how I can cut our budget. What can I do? I haven't been able to find a job. Feeling kinda screwed, you know?

I know. :((((((

We are doing okay if I don't look at our debt load, but on the edge.
