maybe go with her on a holiday, so that there's something to look forward to

yeah i would love to man, however, she is totes financially strapped. so she's pretty much stuck there studying & unable to come home even during the breaks- which doesn't help her homesickness at all!

i have spent my money on 2 hols already so i wont be able to get there in the near future.

so my only solution is to get help from 3rd parties who are there/who are going there.

but yea i'll definitely plan something asap when i have the funds, thx :)

has she any friends in her tutorial groups? that's one way to make friends, or to join a club/study group/student group thing in uni.

Sending her a care package would be nice, and maybe joining efforts with more mutual friends is even better. Everyone could buy something small, and pay for a fraction of the postage and also write a note of encouragement. It's a much cheaper alternative to a holiday but it would show her she's missed and that she's got friends outside of australia looking out for her.

it's so odd because she really was a people person in sg & she sort of was when she was there for the first few months but due to the her eng (it's like the average sgporean's but her diction & grammar is v odd) being made fun of, she has completely lost confidence in initating friendships. she claims that people can't understand the things she says & no one ever understands her jokes ( ... )

*detoriorating

actually she did have a friend in the form of her roomie, however they weren't that close but to her it mattered i guess. & that girl recently left for sg. so tt made things worse i suppose...

there should be quite a few singaporeans studying in perth, has she tried somehow contacting them? (not sure how she can go about doing that but i am darn sure there's way seeing how perth is a popular place for singaporeans to study in) Did her roomie ever introduce her to any of her friends?

i think it's best to help her out of this low point asap, (not sure exactly how) she sounds miserable and homesick and with that thought it's quite difficult to act all upbeat and meet people.

How about the rest of her room mates? does she have any singaporean classmates? Pity i don't really know of people who are in perth at the moment who i'm friends with or close to.

Aw man... my sister was studying in Melbourne, and may or may not be going back to further her studies there... She knows of a friend in Perth though, but she says that friend is kinda in depression, so we don't know if that'll be of any help. =/

woah, i have no idea if it'd be of any use to put 2 depressed people together, maybe if she was recovered she could pull the other 1 out of it. but yea...this might just exacerbate the problem.

thx though ;)
