I've been going through tons of changes in the past 3 months, and I think I need to own up to some things.

This is interesting to me. When I was in college I too thought that I was not detail oriented, but in the last several years I have discovered just how much I really do love the details-- in the way they contribute to the aesthetic whole, just as you describe. I also love data crunching. And I've also become much more addicted to stability and habit, whereas I always used to think of myself as "spontaneous." These discoveries really make me question this business of doing personality inventories when we're 18 in order to figure out what career would be a good match...
