wal-mart update

Jun 06, 2004 17:20

For anyone who may be interested, the Wal-Mart incident was a bomb threat. I overheard two associates talking about it today--they were grumbling about all the returns because apparently the exact same thing happened last night. WTF is going on? Who would call in a bomb threat to freakin' Wal-Mart ( Read more... )

Much agreeance on the Charlize Theron bit... we just watched it last night, and she really scared me. That movie was intense.

Same here (watching it last night). I remember when it all went down--it was huge news here, as it only happened a few hours from me--but I didn't know much of the story since I was only about 12 at the time. The movie definitely took it away a bit from the "cold-hearted lesbian man-hater" image the media was portraying, and Charlize was great; her movements and speaking patterns and everything were dead-on.

I didn't see it last night....but I did see it Friday night! VERY intense movie, indeed. That scene with the first guy to get killed was horrible...but I think the one that affected me even more was the last guy she shot. =/

That scene with the first guy was so horrible and creepy. I could see why she shot him and why she went nuts afterwards. It reminded me a lot of a scene in Boys Don't Cry and I was thinking, "If this is what an actress has to do to get an Oscar, no thanks!"

Is the last guy the one she made get out of the car and she apologized to him right before she shot him? I couldn't watch that one--I had to skip forward. He seemed like such a nice guy and it was just too awful to watch. But I was watching some of the extras on the DVD, and they snuck the filming of that scene in, so I had to watch it anyway. Charlize was so into it and upset afterwards that the director gave her a hug. :(

Ah, so it was guess #2 then, after all!

Who, now, who? Disgruntled (ex-)employee? Disgruntled relative/ex-bf/gf/spouse of store manager? Young whippersnappers who have nothing better to do? Manager of competing Target across the street? :)

Yeah, no dead bodies. Sorry to disappoint!

This particular Wal-Mart has been trying to close down and re-build as a Super Wal-Mart in several locations around town, but has been running into a lot of opposition. It's the only thing that I can figure is causing this, but it's not like the decision-makers are hanging out at Wal-Mart at 11pm...

speaking of Rock Boat bands, I should be seeing Sister Hazel and Matt Nathanson a week from Tuesday at Freebird... good times.

Yeah, I saw that SH is playing Freebird and I thought it was an awfully small venue for them... but while you're there, you can tell them I think it was awfully crappy for them to kick Jump off the Rock Boat. :P

Yeah, it's a good bit smaller than Marquee Theater (where they played here before). It was packed when I saw them that time. But Marquee Theater has switched back to Club 5, and isn't doing much as far as non-club/dance goes now. Which means Freebird is probably your biggest venue, until you move up to something like the Florida Theater... but that wouldn't really be conducive to their style. But I've seen a lot of people pack into Freebird... at least it's better than Jack Rabbit's (Crack Habits)...
