That promise had crossed his mind several times the past few days. Kadaj figured it was only a matter of time before it was brought up. In what way? After attempting to burn down the library, would Minato forbid him any chances of ever getting his chip out? Or did he want it out? It wouldn't really bother him, no matter what the answer. The only reason he wanted it out, would be to protect in case of revenge.
Kadaj looks to the side, hesitant to meet his eyes for too long. Taking Minato's hand, the other rests on his back and begins to lightly massage the muscles.
Minato sighs and sinks down lower, burying his face at Kadaj's neck as he rubs his back. Now that felt good. When was the last time he had a good feeling in his back? He can't even recall. He loses his train of thought, letting his eyes drift closed for a couple minutes before he reluctantly picks his head back up and tries to continue.
"Your Mother and I were talking a little while back... She asked me to-"
Well, he's not exactly sure what to tell him. He's still not even sure what it is he thinks of Jenova and the other two remnants. He knows they don't really care about anything. Regardless, he cares about Kadaj and his family, and Jenova offered him an ear, and words that nobody else could. He appreciated what superficial mask of kindness he was given. He just never forgot that it was a mask... It made things easier, yet more difficult, to know that

Kadaj's face lights up hopefully. She had asked about him? That meant he could really be useful to her. Not yet, but in the future...as long as Minato would agree to it. The decision was his, and Kadaj only hoped he could please them both.
He turned his head slowly, waiting for an answer. Minato and her were very different in their ideals...so how was it that they were both right?
"Yeah...I know you can't. I'm sorry."
He starts to look away again, only to stare at those last words. Minato had kept a promise, but at this point he wouldn't hold it against him anymore. Yet now...
Minato nods his head slowly as he runs his fingers through Kadaj's hair and just watches him for a while. He'd had him back for some time now, but sometimes it still struck him, how relieved he was that he was back. Ever since, the talk Minato had with Jenova seemed so tempting, somewhere in the back of his mind. But no- he's not like that. ...Is he? Could he ever become what he defeated if he were pushed too far?
"Hm. The old one hasn't changed: You cannot tell anyone that I know where either of those locations are. You can't tell anyone I was the one who took it out of you. The new condition... Is that you need to be asleep."
The part of Minato that would worry about hurting Kadaj's feelings on this matter is gone. All there is, is business. His expression doesn't waver. He looks at Kadaj seriously, jaw clenched while he thinks of what else to say, to make sure he understands. What could he say that would make everything clear, and not like a personal attack?
"You know that I trust you. With my life... But if there's one thing I
