Minato sighs and sinks down lower, burying his face at Kadaj's neck as he rubs his back. Now that felt good. When was the last time he had a good feeling in his back? He can't even recall. He loses his train of thought, letting his eyes drift closed for a couple minutes before he reluctantly picks his head back up and tries to continue.

"Your Mother and I were talking a little while back... She asked me to-"

Well, he's not exactly sure what to tell him. He's still not even sure what it is he thinks of Jenova and the other two remnants. He knows they don't really care about anything. Regardless, he cares about Kadaj and his family, and Jenova offered him an ear, and words that nobody else could. He appreciated what superficial mask of kindness he was given. He just never forgot that it was a mask... It made things easier, yet more difficult, to know that.

There was no point in dancing around it. Kadaj and Minato never stood on the same side, no matter how close they were still across mountains on the subject of humanity and they both knew it.

"She wanted me to help her, and the rest of you. She didn't specify, but it isn't hard to understand what it is she meant. ...You know I can't. I can't just give up on people, and what she seems to live to do, it's the opposite of what I died for. ...but I can help you."

It wasn't hard to figure out how. How to do what he wanted for him, without dooming the entire city by giving power to Kadaj's whole family. He would keep his promise no matter what.

"...I know where this chip is, too. I can still do it. But I have a condition."

"Mother..."

Kadaj's face lights up hopefully. She had asked about him? That meant he could really be useful to her. Not yet, but in the future...as long as Minato would agree to it. The decision was his, and Kadaj only hoped he could please them both.

He turned his head slowly, waiting for an answer. Minato and her were very different in their ideals...so how was it that they were both right?

"Yeah...I know you can't. I'm sorry."

He starts to look away again, only to stare at those last words. Minato had kept a promise, but at this point he wouldn't hold it against him anymore. Yet now...

"What's your condition?"

Minato nods his head slowly as he runs his fingers through Kadaj's hair and just watches him for a while. He'd had him back for some time now, but sometimes it still struck him, how relieved he was that he was back. Ever since, the talk Minato had with Jenova seemed so tempting, somewhere in the back of his mind. But no- he's not like that. ...Is he? Could he ever become what he defeated if he were pushed too far?

"Hm. The old one hasn't changed: You cannot tell anyone that I know where either of those locations are. You can't tell anyone I was the one who took it out of you. The new condition... Is that you need to be asleep."

The part of Minato that would worry about hurting Kadaj's feelings on this matter is gone. All there is, is business. His expression doesn't waver. He looks at Kadaj seriously, jaw clenched while he thinks of what else to say, to make sure he understands. What could he say that would make everything clear, and not like a personal attack?

"You know that I trust you. With my life... But if there's one thing I know that I can't compete with, it's your Mother. I may be able to trust you not to purposely hurt or betray me, but I can't trust anything when She comes into the picture. Do you understand?"

He pauses as he starts to move himself into another position, sitting up on Kadaj, letting the blanket fall off his bare shoulders. He reaches down and gently moves Kadaj's hair from his face, examining it. His fingers glide tenderly through his hair and find the scars on his head left over from his death. He circles with his fingertips before dragging them out of his hair and to his forehead, still tracing the marks. He couldn't let this happen to him again... Minato draws in a deep breath and holds it for a long time before he finishes what he was saying.

"...They all have their chips in the same location ever since Yazoo died. If she asked you the location, I know you would tell her if you knew."

"Asleep."

A notion he would be uncomfortable with, had it been someone else requesting it. Kadaj trusted none of the doctors, let alone enough to force him under while digging into him. But Minato was different. He nodded. The truth wasn't harsh, nor did it hurt him. It was just the way Minato was. He would always be honest and trustworthy, even when they didn't agree.

"I understand..."

The truth was harsh, and it hurt slightly to know Minato was right. He didn't want Mother and him to clash. He didn't want to see any sort of empty look in Minato's deep eyes at the command of her...ever.

"I don't want that to happen. So I won't tell them. I promise."

He gazes up at him vulnerably, his stare resting on his shoulders, admiring the beauty. His breath hitches, but he can't quite refuse, staring, almost pleadingly, straight at Minato's face. Perfect, soft. He cups Minato's face, raising it up slightly. His hand drops moments later at his words

"I'm sorry..."

"I know your family will most likely know it was me. Especially your Mother. I don't really care if they do, but I don't want the city to know I have that information."

Minato tilts his head a little, gazing down at the remnant as he admires him. It makes him blush to see him looking at him that way, and his expression finally softens. He leans into Kadaj's hand and presses his cheek into his palm, sliding a hand down to his chest and leaning there. Looking into his eyes, Minato knows for sure he wants to go through with this. There are risks... He knows them. And he's told Kadaj enough times that if he needed to he would stand in his way.

"Don't be sorry... I understand. That's why I'm still doing this."

The look on Kadaj's face is hard to resist. His slitted aqua eyes seemed bright even in the dark, his features soft. Minato starts to lean back down over him, knees down on the mattress, slipping his hands up his neck and thumbing his earlobes gently. He distracts himself for a brief moment with a kiss. It seemed easy to do when they wound up in talks like this, as willing as he is to have these conversations, but how could he say no to it?

"I don't want them to find out either. Less enemies for you and Mother..."

Kadaj can't help it. He smiles, almost deviously, and leans in closer. Minato's blushing always leaves him wanting to endear him. He stops when their lips nearly come into contact, his breath warm, Minato's stare comforting.

Thank you...

He shivers lightly, sinking down and tugging Minato with him. He shuts his eyes, deepening the kiss carefully, his nails that dig lightly into Minato's neck betraying his efforts. It doesn't matter. After everything, he wants to keep him, be with him, have him more than ever.

"Good. I trust you not to tell anybody else about it. I'll do it whenever you want..."

Minato gazes deep into Kadaj's eyes, blushing more at the feel of his warm so near to him. His breath makes him shiver and it's hard for him to pause long enough to answer the other boy.

"Thank you. For giving me a chance."

Minato goes with Kadaj's pull, drawing his shoulders up when he feels the light sting of his nails at his neck. It isn't a bad pain... With a low growl he reciprocates by slipping his fingers back up into Kadaj's hair and balling his hands into fists, tugging it a little. Things were always alright when Kadaj was there. There isn't anyone in this city that can make him feel better after everything the way that he can. If he can keep him safe in any way, Minato will do it...

"Whenever I..."

Tilting his head, he lingers over him, just long enough to give him a response. He knows when, but right now it's less important.

"I don't understand. You've always given me a chance."

Kadaj hisses, digging in deeper, and dragging his hands down to his shoulders. He bites Minato's lower lip, enough to possibly elicit some pain as he tries to provoke more from him. A small action is all it takes and he craves Minato's anger, his attention.
