Makubex sat in his room, absently petting Momo, Kohaku resting on the other side with its head in his lap. The teen made a sound of acknowledgment, but didn't move from his spot.
He had to admit, this didn't look well. Watanuki took in a breath, and then he said, "Makubex. I, um...well, you know what I asked. You remember, right?"
Makubex's hand strayed to the ring on his finger. He twisted it anxiously, staring blankly downwards. There was no use beating around the bush with this. Bluntly he asked, "Would you be happier with her?"
Watanuki had known that Makubex would ask that question, and he had tried to think up a good answer to it. However, he had none. He hadn't been able to think of anything to say that would make Makubex feel better. Frankly, this situation just didn't have a simple solution. He would just have to go with the truth. "Well...I don't know, really. I mean, I've never been anything but a friend to her, so I've never known what it would be like."
He sighed. What he had said didn't include everything he wanted to say, so after a moment of silence he continued. "But I'm happy with how things are now. I wouldn't give all of this up just because she showed up. Not now, not ever."
