"Dealing with the peanut gallery constantly isn't fun at all. However, my complaints are bringing on more of said gallery, so it's best to move onto another subject."

The slightly awkward feeling was back, the not knowing what to do, however he ignored it as best he could. The hand around her shoulder moved to play with her hair, combing through blond locks.

He quirked an amused smile at the reaction to his ministrations. So this was how to tame her.

"The work never ends. Actually creating a medicine that works is much harder than most people think there is. Testing upon testing, having to start from scratch enough times to drive you insane... And there's no shortage of diseases, of course, both physical and mental."

...ah, hell, the talk of his work was pretty damn comforting too.

Hm. "I think about that sometimes. The information and technology here are decades ahead of my time. To use all of this information when I return...well, it would be nothing short of cheating. However, I wouldn't mind messing around with academic integrity a little if it means helping people. Not everything I know here can be applied back home as it were, anyway...I'm not going to have the technology I do here. But the knowledge should suffice for many things."

The tea-kettle began to whistle, and he looked down at her. "You'll have to excuse me for a moment, then. You can go back to using me as a pillow in a minute or so."

"Didn't ask you here to fall asleep on me." Still, with a bit of a laugh, he moved to carefully take the teapot off the fire with the help of some cloths so as to not burn his hand. The leaves were placed in the mugs, water poured over them, and he set it to the side to brew. One cup each was all they really needed for now.
