Anita was crouched near the ground, her sweater stretched over her knees, and had actually just finished... digging. A hole. In the ground. It wasn't a particularly large or deep hole, just... a hole, surrounded by brown, mud-stained snow. And in between the two sticks she had shaved down and fashioned into makeshift chopsticks, she held what she had found in the hole.

A worm. A nice, squiggling earthworm. Oh joy.

"I wonder if you get sick if you eat too many of these..."

Having 'washed' off the dirt using melted snow, she lifted the earthworm--still moving--above her head, was ready to close her eyes and just swallow the darn thing--no chewing, no stopping, just one, two, SWALLOW--when she noticed the tall, silver-haired man nearby.

...she quickly hid the worm behind her back, as though that did anything.

Lately, he seemed to frequently be meeting more and more of the younger crowd. Not that he felt he was any good at interacting with them, but their antics always seemed to amuse him somehow.

Seeing as the young lady was about to eat her wriggling snack before suddenly doing a poor job of hiding it, he smirked. Odd how emotion seemed to be coming more easily as of late.

"How long have you been eating those? You could wind up with something if you don't eat anything proper."

Busted. With a quiet sigh, Anita pulled the squiggly worm from behind her back and looked at the man sheepishly.

"It's not all I've been eating," she said, her voice slightly indignant, "but I hear they're full of protein, so they can't be too bad. They just don't have much... of anything else."

In all truth, Anita preferred milk to worms, but in a place like this, one couldn't be choosy. She had no job, no source of income in this place, so... she managed with whatever she could find, though with the turn of the season towards the freezing, her worm scavenging would likely not last more than a few days more.

"Wanna try it? It's not so bad if you just swallow." She offered the worm to the man, smiling broadly.

At his first comment, she scratched her head a little, 'cause it was true, really. A whole bucket of worms, maybe your stomach would stop growling for about two hours before kicking up an orchestra again, but yeah--worms, tiny little guys they were, weren't particularly filling.

But then he actually took the worm--startled her a bit--and swallowed it, like she suggested. Well. She didn't actually expect him to try it, but he didn't seem bothered. She smiled.

"Nope--me, I thought it'd be much worse, but hey, I'm still alive."

She wiped at her nose a little with her pointer finger, still smiling. Actually, she looked kinda accomplished.

"Ehh... eheheh, yeah, you're right about that. I haven't had a full stomach since I arrived here. But I might try to get a job sometime, especially 'cause it's cold now, and it'll be harder to snag worms, and uhh... y'know, need to bundle up and stuff."

Taking her digging stick and putting away her 'chop'sticks, she started digging anew.
