You are probably lucky that you DIDN'T see a moose. I have seen them, they're big, ugly and LOUD. I was in Yellowstone with my mom and dad years ago, and this moose ambled through our campground at something like five in the morning yelling in his moose voice for his moose girlfriend. Mating season. Yikes.
