March 13th, 2012.

Miranda walked into her hotel room and kicked her heels unceremoniously off causing them to collide with the wall in front of her. She shouldn't even be here, but she couldn't bring herself to face yet another monumental life event without her daughter.

It felt wrong to celebrate anything without Caroline. She knew her daughter wouldn't want her feeling like this, but she couldn't help it.

Sighing she took off her earrings and placed them gently on the table before entering the main living area of the hotel suite and walked over to the mini bar, pulling out a bottle of Moet. She pulled out the cork and threw it in the direction of the nearby rubbish bin.

Sitting on the couch she poured herself a glass of the French Champagne and sipped it a few times before sitting back with a sigh and closing her eyes.

Miranda pulled out her phone and looked at the time. 6:35PM. it was the afternoon back home and Andrea would surely be having her lunch by now. She stared at her background picture of her fiancée with Cassidy on her left side and Caroline on her right. They had taken this picture a week before Caroline had gone. She stared at her brunette beauties face, staring into those gorgeous brown eyes, and wonderfully plump lips.

"Six years ago today." Miranda whispered.

Still to this day Miranda could remember clearly the first moment Andrea wandered into her office.

March 13th, 2006.
Runway Offices.

Miranda looked up from the newspaper and watched as the ugliest pieces of clothing were draped onto a woman with a face that was flawless and could easily be on the cover of Runway, but was hidden because of the God awful clothes and the unkept hair.

"And who are you?" Miranda softly spoke expecting this to be a very interesting interview.

"My name is Andy Sachs. I recently graduated from Northwestern University."

Andy Sachs. Miranda said the name a couple times in her head however she didn't like the ring to it. Andrea was much nicer, she thought, as she glanced quickly at the resume that was placed on her desk. "And what are you doing here?"

"Well, I think I could do a good job as your assistant." Andrea replied, and the Runway Editor continued speaking as if Andrea had not.

"And you have no style or sense of fashion."

"Well, I think that depends on what you're-" Andrea tried, but Miranda instantly stopped her.

"No no, that wasn't a question." Miranda said in a bored tone as she peered at the young woman again who continued speaking and didn't seem that nervous in front of her. She knew what that meant and this was very rare for her at Runway. This was perfectly fine with Miranda. It was actually a nice change. Maybe this girl would actually be able to focus on her job and not obsess over the magazine and the couture. "And before today you had never heard of me?"

The brunette responded with the negative looking sheepishly.

Miranda listened as Andrea continued speaking, standing up for herself. She admired this greatly. "That's all." she said with a wave of her hand as Nigel placed what he held in front of her and she hummed in response at what he said, studying the photographs.

"Thank you for your time." Andrea said before turning and Miranda watched as the brunette walked away. She had already made up her mind about her. The brunette’s backbone, she liked that.

"Who is that sad little person?" Nigel asked her then. "Are we doing a Before and After piece I don't know about?"

Miranda came out of her memory as her phone buzzed next to her.

Looking down she saw that her fiancée was video calling her.

Once she connected the call she saw her lover who looked gorgeous as ever. "Hi." she softly said.

"Hey!" Andrea said a little breathlessly. "Sorry I missed your call earlier, I had to run for the Subway that I nearly missed."

"That's quite alright." Miranda responded.

"How are you?" Andrea asked.

Miranda shrugged. "The usual." she said, and Andrea hummed in understanding. "What about you, darling, you're well?"

"Just very tired." Andrea responded with a sigh.

"Long day?" Miranda questioned.

Long two and a half years more like it, they both thought, but didn't say.

"You could say that again." Andrea said. "It was the worst, and to end the day the Universe thought it would be funny for someone to puke on me on the Subway."

Miranda scrunched her face up in disgust. "Maybe now you'll consider using a town car."

Andrea snorted. "Maybe. I do meet some pretty interesting people on the subway though... it can be fun."

Miranda had caught the subway many times when she first moved to Manhattan and had never conversed with any of the people, they were always loud, annoying, and smelly. "Well, I hope you don't get sick."

"Nah, I doubt it. He looked as if he was coming down from a drug high." Andrea responded as she munched away on a muesli bar.

They fell silent as Miranda watched her lover who began moving around their bedroom picking up dirty laundry as she went.

"I wish you were here." Andrea said as she put clothes into the laundry shoot.

"I know." Miranda replied, sighing. "I'm sorry."

"You don't need to be sorry." Andrea said as she sat down onto the bed and threw the muesli wrapper into the nearby bin. "I understand why you aren't and its okay."

"Are you sure?" Miranda questioned. "Because if you aren't happy I'll get on the plane right away."

"No. It's totally okay. You need to take some time out." Andrea said. "I get it."

Miranda sighed again. Her feelings were so incredibly conflicted. She was feeling guilty for having run away for a couple days when she wasn't the only one in this suffering, but then had she stayed home and celebrated with Andrea she would have also felt guilty. She couldn't win.

However just like Andrea had said to her "There is no right or wrong way to deal with this pain. Caroline's not going to hate you if you let your hair down with me once in a while." her lover’s words echoed in her mind.

"What time are you getting back tomorrow?" Andy asked, breaking the silence that had fallen over them.

"I'm not sure yet. I'll give you a call when I'm on the plane." Miranda said. "I'll call you later though when I get back here." she added.

"Okay." Andrea said. "What have you had for dinner?"

"I had a sandwich from a corner Deli about an hour ago. What are you and the girls going to have?" Miranda asked, adding more. "Is Louise there?"
"Cara said something chicken I think, maybe Kiev's." Andrea replied, continuing. "Louise was here this morning, but said something about going to a friend’s tonight. I'm not sure what's going on with those two, and if they'll get able to get passed it."

Miranda frowned. "Neither do I, but I trust Cassidy will come to either of us if something were going on and they were going to break up." she said, hoping this would not be the case, as she finished her glass of Moet and began pouring another half a glass before standing and walking into the bedroom.

"Just make sure you have something to eat before you take your pills later. You know they don't sit well if you don't, and you're prone to forgetting." Andrea spoke.

Miranda smiled at her lovers words. "Thank you, darling, but I did remember this time. I brought a beetroot couscous to have when I get back."

"Good." Andrea responded. "Well, I'll leave you to it then."

"Alright, darling, we'll talk later." Miranda said.

"Love you." Andrea said. "See ya."

"Bye." Miranda said, her lover blowing her a kiss, before the video call ended.

With that Miranda put her phone onto the table by the door before getting ready for the rest of this photoshoot that had needed Miranda’s expertise, but wouldn't have suffered too severely had she not come. It had simply been a good excuse for her to get away.
