The Story of Lily

Mar 07, 2010 16:23

After harassing the animal shelter all week and talking to several different employees, it became apparent that they are no longer temperament testing very many dogs at the shelter.  They simply euthanize them.  Their euthanasia rate was 60%.  Now it's about 90%.  They absolutely would not commit to sparing the sweet girl I brought in, nor would ( Read more... )

WHEW. I am so so so glad there was a happy ending to that story. When you mentioned the shelter's horrible, depressing euthanasia rate, I steeled myself for the worst. And now I'm practically crying because she's safe with you, and still a sweet baby and happy. Lily's happiness just shines though the pictures. And she's obviously good with kids. *g* Thank you thank you thank you for what you did for her. You know I will be helping out as soon as I can.

Does bluesgirly know about Lily? I'm sure her house is full, as it always is *g*, but maybe she knows places that can help? I've also found good people and resources on Dogster. Maybe you could make her an adoption profile or something there, then post it in their rescue forum? From what I've seen, most of the community there is very pit friendly.

I have been in touch with her. She was the first person I asked, actually, when I looked for a shelter to pull her, and yup. She and her organization already had their hands full with other doggies needing rescuing. But, she's a wonderful wealth of information, and I may pick her brain soon for breed-specific tips on training, feeding, and general handling... not that Lily has been problematic at all; I'm just a bit ignorant still with pibbles.

Thank you so much for your support and generosity. If and when you have the resources to help out financially, it would be greatly appreciated, but I know you have your own babies to care for, too, so your friendship and emotional support mean equally as much to me.

I hadn't thought of setting up a Dogster profile, but that's a great idea! I'll do that as soon as I can.

Thanks again!

I hope someone can come through for her. :-(

Just last week my friend's wife dropped $500 on a puppy from a pet store. I wanted to drive over there just to smack her.

She's the kind of dog that I'll have to take with me wherever I go so that people can meet her. She may not be the most beautiful pit, but she has the best personality in the world, and people will fall in love with her once they see her in person. Someone will come through.

As for your friend's wife, I'm glad she's YOUR friend's wife. I probably would have made the drive. :-p

Her one saving grace is that she's going through medical issues lately, and hates her job, so there is a "if this makes her happy..." factor. That's what kept me from making the drive. But I told my friend to tell her not to bring it up in front of me, because I don't plan on pretending it was a good call just to make her happy. (Not my wife, not my problem.)
