#9 is Lisa Loeb, but not "Stay." Actually, it's Lisa Loeb and NINE Stories, but...I'm not getting the full theme yet.

As a hint--it's late 80's synth-pop. The group was arguably a "one-hit wonder," although this is not their one (big) hit, and I remembered it well enough to think of it immediately when I needed it for the quiz (which is often the benchmark I use of whether or not something is too obscure). The title, not the artist, is the relevant bit. The chorus is the next part of the song, and is also the title.

Ah, #4 is all of the above, I meant to say, not #9, which is Lisa Loeb and Nine Stories' other really popular song off of the album in question. The next line of #9 is "...and you smoked with the ghost in the back of my head."
