Dog allergy question

My pug max is suffering from what the vets say is a food allergy. His stomach, armpits, face are all hairless and he constantly is scratching them, and he's got a chronic double ear infection. The Vet has put him on Ultra Allergen free Z/D pet food from Hill's Science diet and said it would take about 3-4 months to clear up, but it hasn't and it'

What type of bowl does he eat from? One of ours was having allergy problems, and the vet said they can be allergic to the glaze on ceramic dishes, so he recommended stainless steel dishes instead. Also it's much easier to get stainless steel dishes *really* clean.
