What a wonderful village. The cottages are such a contrast to our local grey stone and slate. That's an unusual war memorial too.

It's such a picturesque village. And the estate houses that Ernest Debenham and his architects created are so generous... Unbelievably so, by modern standards.

I think the war memorial may be modelled on some of the old market crosses that survive in a few Dorset villages.

Pleasant woods and a charming, lovely village. I love all those thatched roofs.

Thanks for the tour!

You're welcome!

That village must really keep all the local thatchers in business!

I love seeing the thatched roofs of the buildings.

The forest looks like a nice place to walk. It's nice with the sunshine streaming through it.

Ernest Debenham must have really liked thatch! All the estate cottages were thatched. Though probably getting the roof re-thatched every twenty or thirty years was a lot cheaper in those days.

Such a beautiful model village. Ernest Debenham was amazingly generous to his workers.

Though I suppose there were always disadvantages when you were a farmworker living in a tied cottage - you couldn't do anything to risk displeasing the landowner in case you lost your home.

Exactly. You needed to be at least a little careful.
