I thought I might get away with sneaking across the field, because the heifers were over the far side, at a feeder, and it was rather foggy... but the heifers saw me, and it all got rather exciting.

Far too much of an adventure. I usually avoid fields with young cattle, but I was tempted in by the earthworks...

That was quite the adventure! I don't know what the heifers wanted with you, but I am glad you were able to escape them.

I loved the moody, ethereal fog that makes everything look mysterious and vaguely threatening. I also enjoyed reading about the history of the place and the ancient well there. Fascinating!

Heifers are always skittish & curious when they are first turned out. It's not the first time I've been chased across a field by a herd of them!

I do find young cattle rather scary. They probably only want to play, but I don't think they realise how big and strong they are compared to a human. I'm glad you escaped safely.

I usually try to avoid footpaths across fields with young cattle (or bulls!) these days, but this time I was tempted in by the archaeology...

It's not the most spectacular set of earthworks, but there were some lovely ancient trees growing on the banks, and the fog added nicely to the atmosphere.
