This. This needs to have happened. For both of them. It is absolutely necessary that they had precisely these brother cuddles before the events of Point of No Return and Hammer of the Gods (which then, naturally, played out very differently).
There is a fragility to the relationship here that seems very genuine, very necessary - each time Cas or Gabriel reaches out to the other, it really feels possible that they could break something (at least before Lucifer turns up), which is a danger that is so very necessary for many relationship-based fics and not very often achieved.
... Silly Castiel. Of course Gabriel always has ulterior motives. They're just ones you're also going to enjoy.
(Is this really nc-17, btw? It didn't seem more than a mild M to me!)
