Boa constrictor & Journal Poll

Aug 11, 2007 12:09

Today is the fourth anniversary of my site, Boa constrictor. I feel kind of melancholy. HP series is finished, everybody's leaving LJ... It's the end of an era.

I'm feeling lost, so I decided to post a poll.

You can choose just one option, but I'm willing to keep TWO journals. My problem with IJ is that I CAN'T AFFORD A PAID ACCOUNT, so I won't ( Read more... )

This whole thing is so confusing. People are choosing different sites to go to and it seems I'm going to have to get one account at each place just to keep up! The fragmentation really saddens me. :-(

this is why for now i am cross posting to multiple journals instead of choosing just one.

Oh, x-posting is easy, but how can I read on 3 journals, especially if half of the people are x-posting? I can't :(

I've said 'stay on LJ' but that's me being selfish, because I'd hate to lose track of you. *Hugs ( ... )

I'm glad that you understand my concerns. I know we can't trust GJ, and I'm not sure we can trust IJ in the long run (the fact that Squeaky is being so solicitous is wonderful, but I don't think their ToS is any better than LJ's). So I will surely be careful. I'm not planning to write any underage fics any soon, anyway. I would hate having to stop friending people back. I have always friended everyone back and have always read ALL my friends' posts.

So, like you, I'm sad and worried, and think the fragmentation is already happening and will happen no matter what I decide to do.

I certainly understand the number of friends thing, I really do. That's tough for someone like you and difficult when you've always friended everyone back ( ... )

The logic of moving, IMHO, is that LJ is implementing the banning policies and looking very proud of it. I know some people mentioned a banning case on GJ, but that was about two years ago, if I'm not mistaken, so... it doesn't seem really threatening. I hope you understand that I'm not saying GJ is safe. It's just that I don't believe there is anywhere really safe.

I would prefer you stay on LJ... but I understand your paranoia with all this stupid purging thing. X_X;; The only thing I can suggest is post underage stuff somewhere... else? And ... ... link it? *sighs* I dunno. I honestly can't think of any other solutions.

A good friend has just given me a paid account on IJ, but most of my friends are still going to GJ. It's a hard decision.

I'm encouraged by Squeaky's (IJ) welcoming attitude. He's already investigating increasing the "friends" limit again, by the way. I like that he's so approachable, and that he's repeatedly stated flat out that he won't remove content without court order. We've seen promises made and broken, of course; it will take a lot to rebuild our trust. I feel cautiously optimistic about IJ, though.

Up-thread a bit, someone linked to Maeglinyedi's worrying info on Scribblit, and GJ has already done some banning. You have concerns about JF.

I don't think there is a perfect option, yet. I too hope everyone can manage to stay connected. I think a lot of people are keeping (free) LJ accounts, and just using them for contact/communication. LJ doesn't even want to allow linking to material they deem unacceptable, however, so that will have to be done cautiously.

I understand your option. My main problem with IJ is that it's very important to me to friend EVERYONE back, and even if I still can do it right now, I won't be able to do it in a few days, if I decide to move there. I have already more than 250 friends (including the comms) on GJ, too!
