Boa constrictor & Journal Poll

Aug 11, 2007 12:09

Today is the fourth anniversary of my site, Boa constrictor. I feel kind of melancholy. HP series is finished, everybody's leaving LJ... It's the end of an era.

I'm feeling lost, so I decided to post a poll.

You can choose just one option, but I'm willing to keep TWO journals. My problem with IJ is that I CAN'T AFFORD A PAID ACCOUNT, so I won't ( Read more... )

I certainly understand the number of friends thing, I really do. That's tough for someone like you and difficult when you've always friended everyone back.

I guess I don't quite understand the logic or moving to another site that has behaved the same was LJ has done. Why not stay on LJ where all your friends are and your community (in general, rather than specific) is?

At the end of the day nowhere is going to be completely safe, insofar as they are all going to be bound by laws. The only difference will be in the way they deal with the abuse complaints/orders. No site can ignore them.

I guess that from my point of view I'm seeing far less fragmentation than you, as I'm not involved in HP fandom at all. I have a few friends, like yourself, who are, and certainly one at least has completely gone from LJ, from a posting standpoint anyway. She's gone to IJ - and as with you, she's a person I really don't want to lose touch with.

Certainly apart from her and your good self, I haven't seen anyone on my flist who has said that they are leaving either now or in the near future. Yes, most have set up back-up accounts, but then a lot had those in place long before all of this happened.

However, I imagine that HP fandom is becoming really fragmented with people vanishing to various other journalling sites - and there are a lot of them! I know that GJ and IJ seem to be the most popular, but there are several others that I know of.

At the end of the day, as you said a few posts ago, whatever each of us decides to do, we can't force anyone else to do the same thing.

It's a sad time.

*Hugs you*

The logic of moving, IMHO, is that LJ is implementing the banning policies and looking very proud of it. I know some people mentioned a banning case on GJ, but that was about two years ago, if I'm not mistaken, so... it doesn't seem really threatening. I hope you understand that I'm not saying GJ is safe. It's just that I don't believe there is anywhere really safe.

From what I understand the GJ banning was this year at the same time as LJ had its strikethrough and it was more than one case. But maybe I've misunderstood.

I do understand that you know/are saying that GJ isn't safe, nowhere is.

Hmm, I don't know. The case I read about is one that happened at least two years ago. You may have read about other case.
