Is it breaking the rules to take scissors and a sewing machine to it?

I mean, technically no. I don't think there are any hard and fast rules. But I personally want to see how well this cheapo dress will hold up with a month's worth of wearings. I think if I alter it, it may either totally wreck it, or keep it from self-destructing on a natural path. :D
