I'm sure that, mehetabel being the MMW fan he is, that he already knows about Baby Loves Jazz. I found that used in Chattanooga, and its a jazz supergroup put together to do slightly stretched out versions of standards (with Sharon Jones of the Dap-Kings on vox). The disc is in the car right now, but I believe that Medeski is on the keys...
I'll ask him about it when he gets out of the shower, but I bet you're right and he does already know about it. I don't remember him mentioning it, though, so we may not actually have a copy around here.
I forgot to mention Garcia and Grisman's "Not For Kids Only". If you're not willing to commit to blatant Deadheadery, I'll be glad to send you a copy. It's really nice, upbeat and gentle and it makes a nice transitional CD from playtime to naptime.
My Sister-In-Law buys the Dan Zanes kids CDs for her boys. We have a copy of "House Party" and it's pretty good.
You might also make your own CD of suitable music...things like Pink Floyd's "Effervescent Elephant" and any number of Beatles songs are great for kids! When Sophie was very little she really dug anything with a good rhythm and lots of drums, so lyrical-appropriate reggae or world music might be fun to try.
I am sure one of my friends served you at McKays. I miss that place so much, as fun as it is to shop there it was actually a lot of fun to work there too. Cool kids.
Yeah, I could see that place being the center of a subculture. The costs of the weekend restrained me from buying anything for myself (!) but that wasn't due to a lack of finding stuff. On the other hand we more or less wiped out the pop-up book section. I think we know where our first stop is the next time we go to the Noog...
If'n you go back, bring some music you don't want, it's fun watching the feeding frenzy when someone with some taste trades stuff in. THe snobs come out of the woodwork

And I really appreciate the comment too - this past mix was the first one I ever "edited", in that I compiled rough drafts, changed song orders, added and deleted tracks, etc, and I was pretty proud of the finished product but I didn't get much talk on it - so it makes me feel nice...
y'know, that gives me an idea that I could compile my own CD. We did that for A-chan's first birthday, giving all party attendees a mix of her favorite songs at the time. And its not like I couldn't do that now, seeing as how I have a few of those songs already and I know there are others that might fit nestled elsewhere in my collection.
I used to think "childrens music" was a cheap marketing ploy, but apparently kids can perceive a difference in music made for them. A-chan up until now has been happy with my weird stuff, but the times seem to have changed. Perhaps there's a nice medium between kidstuff and weirdstuff. My weekend mission!
I've been meaning to look up the name of the book -- we bought my sister-in-law a children's songbook with a cd this year and her daughter (who is much younger than A, she's 8.5 mos right now) really loves it.
We liked it because it's by all the real bands/artists so it's all real music and not that really strange children's music stuff. Blue Moo: 17 Jukebox Hits From Way Back Never. I actually think it might be fun for someone A's age (we listened to it a couple of times and I thought it was fun).
I got the card today-- those girls are SO DANG CUTE! :)
