Yeah, its been a long time. No, I haven't really read LJ in a number of weeks and I really can't now either. Yes, I'm writing solely because its the last day of 2007 and I have a record-geek duty to throw out my obligatory list. No, there are no descriptions this year because I couldn't find time to write them, but I'll be happy to converse on any ( Read more... )

Yeah, on top of everything listed above there's a lot of stuff I really want to hear. The Burial album you've mentioned lately being one of them - I hadn't actually heard any dubstep at all until someone burned me a compilation a couple of weeks ago - I'd held off for so long because I was afraid I'd be a sucker for a trend, but damned if I didn't like it...

Oh, and to mention it here, I think my favorite Criterion of the year is the La Jetee/Sans Soleil disc, although Sansho The Bailiff is a very close runner-up. And I say that still without seeing any of the Teshigahara box that's been sitting on my shelf for the past 6 months...

Gravikords, Whirlies and so forth is pretty cool, isn't it? I think that's the only disc on your list where we overlap, but I bought maybe five CDs all year.

John really enjoys your year-end mixes, and so do I. We would be flattered and appreciative if you would toss one our way.

Sophie wants to see more photos of A-chan.

I think I actually bought the Gravikords set about a decade ago for my theremin-crazed cousin at the time, although I borrowed it from him for the next several years that followed. So when I found it used in a Dallas budget store, I had to take the plunge...that "Planet Squeezebox" set mentioned above is by the same label, and is their compendium of all the various uses of the accordion - pathetically I haven't been able to play it yet, but soon...

And sure I'll send a CD! John's one of those on my grateful list, as he actually has commented on listening to the CD. So many say "send me one!" and then I spend the (increasingly expensive) cash to send it out only to no response...

And I'll try to get more photos up soon! Although new baby-chan photos will surely be on the way - but now that A-chan sleeps in the PC room, its hard to find the time to do much stuff online. Still, I'll try to get some recent photos up soon...

And happy new year, or akemashite omedetou gozaimasu as they say in the old country!

Then you've come to the right place! I doubt I'll be doing much writing in here for some time to come but photos should hopefully be showing up regularly.

Thanks sir! I hope all is well in your corner of the world too - we'll surely be back in Japan this year, most likely late spring for the whole "first blessing" thing - start booking your vacation now!

Thanks - I only like to give the CDs to people who actually say something about them - nothing frustrates me more than to spend the time and money to compile these things, write notes, make artwork, go to the copy shop, and then spend $$$ to send these out to people all over, some being relatively anonymous, only to get nothing back - okay, vent done, but just rest assured you're one of the good ones...

To be brutally honest, that UO album is the least of the ones I've heard of them - its got that 80s indie sound that doesn't translate to my ears at all (surely Albini wasn't involved?). There's one bizarre song called "Smokehouse" that makes me crack up, in which Nash yowls like some very drunken Texas demento, but on the whole the album surely pales to the later "Supersonic Storybook" which is THE Urge album. My 2 cents...
