i have been writing a story since mid-fall, but i rarely have motivation to complete it. I sit down, write a few sentences, delete those sentences because i think they sound stupid, and then walk away. I really want to finish it soon because i havnt posted in like 9 months. damn procrastination -
The ending - Epic walk XI
We found ourselves in the parking lot of a tattoo parlor called "Tattoo USA" in Salisbury about an hour later, trying to find the courage to step out of the car. Epic walk X
We quickly made it to the boardwalk and within maybe 10 minutes, Hampton beach was well behind us again. With every minute that passed, we easily covered stretches of rte. 1A that took us hours to walk. Beaches, shops and everything else seemed to whiz by us at a hundred miles an hour. As we walked the few blocks back to the ocean, it felt as though we were on top of the world. We talked about how we should have been lying in a marsh somewhere much more north than here, but instead everything had unexplainably worked out. On the way outside, I told Tom of the brief exchange I had with the two women. I don't remember him objecting to getting into a car with another group of strangers, but then again, I didnt really question who our new chauffeurs were either. Epic walk VII
The sky above us was still cloudy, and it smelled like it was about to rain again. Although it was around 9:45pm, it was still very humid and warm which made the walk out of Portsmouth that much more uncomfortable. Tom and I slid into the backseat of our new friends car, and thanked them for picking us up. I clearly remember the smell of stale sweat mixed with leather, along with a slight hint of hard alcohol. Still in the marshes, Tom and I were following the road in front of us toward who knows where. From behind us we heard a vehicle approaching, so we moved over to the shoulder to let them pass. As we traveled along the rock wall, the clouds were starting to roll in and it was getting noticeably darker. For the first time I started to think this trip was a bad idea. As we entered Rye we decided to consult our trusty cartoon illustration map, and it informed us that we were approaching the midway point in our little journey.
