Room 326, Tuesday

May 09, 2006 20:44

Just like that, Ivanova was gone -- packed and back into the life she had left behind. As she stood alone in the dorm room, she was unsure how to feel about it all. She and Ivanova hadn't been friends, per se, but a comfort level had been reached, something she hadn't quite developed with many others at the school. That was partially due to her own ( Read more... )

Lyta glanced up from her book. "Just a minute," she called as she dragged herself off the bed. She opened the door to find a redhead with two large boxes and a black cat. "Uhm, hi?"

"Hi, I'm Alanna, your new roommate, but no, I am not new here I'm just moving from the first floor." All this was said in one breath. "Can I come in?"

"Of course," Lyta said. She stepped back, allowing Alanna to enter. "Here, let me help with that." She held out her hands, trying to take one of the boxes to help with the load.

"Thanks." Alanna dumped her box on the empty bed. "Faithful, stay. Um, yeah, I have two bags and some stuff I need to carry up left in my room. And a fridge. Thankfully most of my books are currently in Angel's room. I ramble when tired or overwhelmed." Faithful purred. "I talk."

Smiling, Lyta placed the other box down on the desk that had been Ivanova's. "Sounds like you need a whole moving crew," she commented. Her eyes flitted to the cat. That was going to make things interesting...

"I'm usually more organized, but I just found out I was moving this morning. And then all the new students flooded the hallways! I'll be back in a moment, that should be my last run. Stay." The last comment was directed to Faithful, who snorted as Alanna left. "Silly girl. She could have used her Gift, but no, physical work is just so much more fun."

Lyta hadn't been oblivious to all the new students -- the background "buzz" she was accustomed to had grown exponentially all day. She had, however, decided that the best course of action was to burrow in and meet up with any new arrivals after the initial rush was over.

Her brows instantly went up the moment the cat spoke. "Apparently Alanna isn't the only one that talks?"

"Nope. I talk. And contrary to what Alanna may believe I am not the bane of her life." Faithful began prowling around his new room. "I like fish."

Lyta nodded, pursing her lips. "And here I thought that was just a stereotype." A lopsided grin traced across her lips as she watched the cat take in his new environs.

"Yes, but it's a stereotype based in truth." Faithful jumped on a window sill. "I hope you don't mind getting a cat as your new roommate either." At that moment, Alanna's refrigerator and a bag came quietly floating into the room and settled down on the floor. "Heh, she took my advice."

She guessed she shouldn't have been surprised when the fridge and the bag came levitating into the room; she had, after all, seen a teek in action, and it wasn't all that different. Hell, she had her own telekinetic abilities, however slight. Still, the magic-propelled objects were a bit unsettling.

And to think Ivanova had issues with me! She frowned. Was telepathy in Alanna's bag of tricks, too?

Alanna came into the room fifteen minutes later, her last bag thrown over her shoulder and a candle in her hand. "Sorry. I probably should have warned you ahead of time. Just...chaos and chaos and trying not to loose anything."

"I'm quickly adjusting to strange," Lyta replied, a lot more calmly than she felt at the moment. "Though, admittedly, this place is a little more strange than home."

"Tell me about it." Alanna muttered and began to unpack her things. "Where are you from?"

"Earth -- originally," Lyta answered. She gave a taut smile. "Ivanova and I came from, ah, similar backgrounds."

Alanna blinked. "So not from Earth afterwards?"
