Room 326, Tuesday

Just like that, Ivanova was gone -- packed and back into the life she had left behind. As she stood alone in the dorm room, she was unsure how to feel about it all. She and Ivanova hadn't been friends, per se, but a comfort level had been reached, something she hadn't quite developed with many others at the school. That was partially due to her own ( Read more... )

Lyta glanced up from her book. "Just a minute," she called as she dragged herself off the bed. She opened the door to find a redhead with two large boxes and a black cat. "Uhm, hi?"

Lyta nodded. That would suffice for now. It really was scary how similar their backgrounds really were. They might have been even more alike if Lyta hadn't developed into a P5. "Right."

"Any weird habits that I should be aware of? For instance, I'm an insanely earlier riser, but I usually don't make a sound so don't worry about me waking you." Alanna tossed most of her clothes into the open closet.

Lyta hedged. Full disclosure? she wondered. It wasn't like being a teep was unusual around here, after all. And the PsiCorps wasn't exactly beating down the door. At the moment, anyway.

"Well, I generally like to study with music," she began slowly. "And I have mood swings, usually related to a migraine attack."

She drew in a deep breath. "And, well, I'm, ah, telepath."

Why did she feel she suddenly needed to be at a Telepaths Anonymous meeting?

"I'm a healer, so if you'd like some, I don't know, help, during your next migraine attack? I may be able to help out a bit." Alanna unpacked a few more things. "Telepath? So uh, you can read minds?"

Lyta nodded. "If you can help." She grimaced. "Most of them happen because of my abilities. As they develop again, I experience migraines. It's not pretty, but..." Giving a shrug, she gave a rueful smile. "Part of being me."

She flopped onto her bed, watching as Alanna unpacked. "And yes, I can read minds. Not usually without permission...though I tend to always hear a 'background buzz.' I guess it's nature's way of letting me know everything is still working."

"Magic related headaches. Fun." Alanna looked at her almost empty bag and made the fridge move into a corner, where it plugged itself in with a wiggle of her fingers. "You'll set something on fire." Faithful happily told her from the window sill. Alanna ignored him. "That's an interesting ability. I can see where it might get annoying sometimes, though."

"It's gotten better. I've at least learned how to control it. A lot of telepaths lose what grip on reality they have if they can't learn to shut everyone else out."

Alanna shivered. "Th-that happens back home to Sorcerors sometimes." She shook her head. "Which is one of the hundred or so reason I wanted to be a Knight and not a Sorceror."

Lyta glanced at her book, laying face down on her bed. "If Merlin is any example, you might have made a good choice."

"Merlin." Alanna mussed. "Sorry, doesn't ring a bell, should it?" She lit the candle with the tip of her finger.

"A sorcerer from home," Lyta explained. "No one knows for sure whether he was real or not -- there's a lot of debate about it, actually. One of the books I'm reading covers how he became a sorcerer. It's about the third time I've read it -- despite the bitter ending."

"Cool." Alanna summarized. "I think I'm unpacked. So you're into ... history?"

"This specific history, at least. We had...an artifact...turn up at home, and it really made me curious. The next thing I knew, I was digging up every book I could find on the subject." She smiled. "It's also nice to have the opportunity to study whatever I want, and not some mandated program."

"Oh yes!" Alanna agreed and colapsed on her new bed. "I'm just a history nut. At home, I barely had time to sleep, much less study something I wanted to."

"Training to be a knight kept you that busy?"
