My understanding is that some people just can't do it, tendons and whatnot. Personally I've never had any trouble, but then I'm double jointed.

I've never had a problem, either, but I don't know if I'm double jointed. I do recall trying (and kind of succeeding) to learn how to raise one eyebrow like Spock by practicing in a mirror...

...which could explain my dating history, but what's done is done.

Anyway, knowing the Vulcan salute sets one up perfectly to be able to perform the secondary "nanu-nanu" greeting from "Mork & Mindy."

I can't do it.

I just cannot get my little finger to move over. I can't roll my tongue either.

Knowing that Sylar can't do it either makes me feel somewhat better.

Yeah, I too have heard that some people just can't do it. It's one of those odd things like rolling your tongue or wiggling your ears.

The only way I can describe that cover art is: AWESOME, DUDE! Possibly "radical" as well. Could be "gnarly"; I was never cool enough to get away with that one, so I don't really know.

Thanks! I like to think it has a touch of "tubular" as well (though not in a Michael Oldfield way, that would be creepy).

I think I've got an old shareware copy of that last panel star trek game. It's kind of fun, though the last difficulty level is impossible (Klingons keep arriving on map)

I played it WAAAAAAAY back on an old mainframe at the college where my parents taught. Later on, someone made a version called "VGA Trek" for the PC, and then there was a game that played like a version of it on steroids for the C64 called "Star Fleet".

My favorite think about VGA trek was the "death ray." If it failed, half your crew turned into mutants, resulting in smiley faces and tic-tac-toe games appearing on the main viewscreen at times.

My favorite trek game is "Begin", which was text based for the first version, but Begin 2 and Begin 3 are much more graphical, and you can do some major fleet battles with them.

Yeah, I played the vga trek version (with color. And the goofiest internal speaker sound-effect for a photon torpedo in the history of foley). The death ray mutant effect was interesting. Even an innocent 'change the speed we're at' effect could be met with 'do it yourself'.

That cover art rules! Please please please give us a wallpaper-sized version! Please! And would it help if I said "please"?

Well, not all the reviews have been positive. Some have foudn the plot to be rather, well, "empty" is a good word I guess. Or contrived. But you really have to look past the special effects to notice...

True, which is kind of ironic, given the series' humble FX beginnings.

Still, as long as it's better than "Insurrection" (that $*%#(@ joystick at the end, among other things), I'm happy to rent a theater seat.

Oh, much better than "Insurrection" or "Nemesis."

The plot requires a little handwaving at times, but I was more interested in the characterization anyway, and since I thought it felt like all our old friends were back, just with new faces, I loved the movie. Behind the shiny, shiny special effects, it's a character-driven movie -- the plot is really an excuse for the everyone to interact. Something for them to do. ;)

Many reviews seem to be "Cardboard characters, contrived empty plot" but yay!
To me those = nay.

ce la vie.
