Well, not all the reviews have been positive. Some have foudn the plot to be rather, well, "empty" is a good word I guess. Or contrived. But you really have to look past the special effects to notice...

Oh, much better than "Insurrection" or "Nemesis."
The plot requires a little handwaving at times, but I was more interested in the characterization anyway, and since I thought it felt like all our old friends were back, just with new faces, I loved the movie. Behind the shiny, shiny special effects, it's a character-driven movie -- the plot is really an excuse for the everyone to interact. Something for them to do. ;)

The ending bothered me a little. You wouldn't HAVE that last moment escape if you'd just watched the fireworks. It'd have been karmic if anyone mentioned it. That, and with all the special effects; why is engineering clearly a giant stock chemical factory isntead of the usual nifty warp core dominated-space?

I guess that explains that - though I guess that makes things easier if the engineers want to start a still. :) (Really? Beer? The brewery tours I've seen don't seem to be that complicated)

You just say that because of the big choppy thing.

Still, as long as it's better than "Insurrection" (that $*%#(@ joystick at the end, among other things), I'm happy to rent a theater seat.
