Ah, there's no gods and there's precious few heroes
But there's plenty on the dole in the land o' the leal
And I'm damn sure that there's plenty live in fear
Of the day we stand together with our shoulders to the wheel
Ay, there's no gods!--Brian McNeill

I know, I haven't seen enough of the Heroes TV series to have much of an opinion of it. I'm a Numb3rs man myself.

If you run into my wife at any future convention, just bring up Numb3rs; She'll geek out more than I have over Babylon-5.

So she's an SDKG, eh? (I invented the term.)

The goldfish one was actually dis-proven on Mythbusters. A quick check of snopes shows the the Canadian dollar claim is false:

http://www.snopes.com/business/money/redensign.asp

Most of the clocks in Pulp Fiction were set to 4:20, but not all of them:

http://www.snopes.com/language/stories/420.asp

The Winston Churchill one is false:

Those were the ones I could nullify with minor research. I bet a few more are false, too.

It wouldn't surprise me. The goldfish one was also covered on Q.I.

What was it that Will Rogers once said? "It ain't what people know that's so dangerous. It's what people know that just ain't so." :)

I also need to dispute the "you never heard of" part of the list title (which is also grammatically incorrect; it should be "you've"). I have, in fact, heard of almost all of these, including the fact that many of them are incorrect. For example, the number of dimples on a golf ball varies by manufacturer; there is no "regulation." Give him credit for this, though -- tigers do have striped skin. It's just not particularly surprising, that's all.

Including number 30. Although the Speaker of the House of Commons has to resign from his Party for his office (and therefore not able to speak on political issues within the House of Commones), he is not prohibited from speaking as his role is to keep order within the HoC. "Order! Order!", anyone?

I'll skip the ones other posters have debunked. First, the outright lies ( ... )

I knew most of this wasn't even close to true going in, but I didn't realize it was practically a Dave Barry piece (and that's only assuming it was written in jest).

I don't suppose any verdict has been haded down on that "Uncle John's Bathroom Reader" book, has it? I look at that all the time when I'm "occupied," and I'd hate to think I was completely wasting my time in there (sort of).

Oh man Guitar Rising looks fantastic fun. It's like Power Tab the game, I'll definately be getting myself a copy of that. It's what I've been moaning for since Guitar Hero first came out.

As for getting through the Summer shows, I'd recommend "Burn Notice" and the final season of "The Shield". Of course, you'd need to catch up with the previous seasons (1 season for Burn Notice and 6 for The Shield), but they are totally worth it. "The Shield" in particular is one of the best three shows I've ever watched ("Dexter" and of course every critics favourite "The Wire" being the other two).

Now I have to go watch Torchwood in the BBC player (as once again I forgot to set my box to record it) and this mine game is bugging the heck out of me - I've got as far as the level where you have to detonate 30/40 small mines.

I think they're still bringing Dexter to network TV (a semi-sanitized version, of course) before the summer is over.

And I'm betting we'll see "Keyboard Rising" before too long as well!

Both seasons of Dexter completely blew me away when I watched them and I only decided to watch it because it was starring Michael C. Hall (I love Six Feet Under). I've heard about the network TV version and I'm thrilled, more people need to experience the show.

I wonder if it's being sanitised for violence or because of Debra's (Jennifer Carpenter) language. :D

"Keyboard Rising" would be a good reason for me to dig my old 1990s school keyboard out of the attic and jam out some 80s electro-pop. I'm sold on it!

Having played Guitar Hero (finally beat Free Bird on Expert, argh) and an actual guitar, I can say with confidence that actual guitars are considerably harder. Since then I've been trying to figure out how to make a more guitar-like guitar game. I figured tablature would be involved, but I couldn't figure out how to get the frets to work.

I'm really psyched about this game. I'll be picking it up while working on my Lars Ümlaüt costume.
