On a side note, the 'GlaDOS in Defense Grid' thing is kinda old, isn't it? I thought that got put in with the whole 'Potato Sack' promotion that screwed up my Wonderful End of the World saves?
Going to see Starship Troopers in the theatre will always remain an amusing memory for me: We went as a group - 2 English profs, 2 English majors & an Anthro major (whose mouth we threatened to duct tape shut so he wouldn't give us a running analysis though the whole movie). I still find it funny that all 5 of us docked the movie more points for the lack of power armor than for the hatchet job they did on the plot & the overall point H. was trying to make with the book. (Dina Meyer naked in the shower scored points w/ 4 out of 5 of us though... ;) #5 said Dina didn't really do much for her).

Given that not only did Verhoeven profoundly misunderstand Heinlein's novel, which was decidedly antifascist in its own right (ANY form of Federal Service entitled you to a vote, not just the military, which had expanded due to the Bug War), but went out of his way to "satirize" this novel (and dis it frequently in the media) based on his false interpretation, thus insulting Heinlein AND the work, I don't even consider it worthy of the name it stole. It really has nothing to do with Heinlein's intent or story other than a few shared names. It missed the central theme, the sociological speculation, and the technological innovation. Forget it
