Of course the logo for the film is JCM.

Why they don't want to use the full name, I don't know. I just bought a kindle and the first thing I did was to go to Project Gutenberg and download all the Mars books for free. Just so folks know, you don't need a reader to download from Gutenberg, it just makes it easier to read.

I may have to swipe my wife's Nook and do the same. Thanks!

I'm afraid you've got your dates a bit off. The first of the John Carter stories was published in 1912, not 1917. "Under the Moons of Mars" was serialized starting in February of '12. It was edited into book form and published as "A Princess of Mars" in 1917. So the movie is coming out almost exactly a century after initial publication.

Me, A Barsoom nerd? Never!

That's a nice bit of symmetry they've managed, there.

I also later read that George Lucas cited the Barsoom books as inspiration for "Star Wars."

I am so disappointed that the world in a box that your thirteen-year-old-self found was not a Phantom Tollbooth.

and I'm not sure where I got that age number from -- apparently I have no reading comprehension today, I apologize.

I'd gotten that earlier, both in book form and in the still-great Chuck Jones animated form!

Josh will get that book fairly early on. It's one of my wife's favorites, and she has probably a dozen copies that she has leftover from when she taught 6th grade.

Surely scramblers would make more sense than Harleys. They'd get round the terrain much easier and there's the option to have a chase sequence with a load of bike stunts in it. If the Harleys are there for product placement ( like the nerf guns ;-) ) the they could just drink red bull at the end of the chase instead

I also wonder if bikes were chosen because they'd be more "Mad Max?"

I also just had the thought that we haven't seen anything happen on or near any major bodies of water. If Terra Nova has jet-skis, I may have to re-think ever watching it again.

When I worked at a bookstore, I found out that the Gold Eagle imprint was from the same publisher as Harlequin. Ever since, I think of those as Men's Romance Novels. I'm sure that the Deathlands books have the same overdone "purple prose" as the stuff churned out for the "ladies"

Mind blown. This explains so much.
