You know, I'm actually hoping that s6 of Supernatural returns to more of an episodic format, like most of s1 was. There'll be plenty of smaller evils running around in the wake of near-Armageddon, so there's plenty for them to deal with. And honestly, while I've enjoyed the arc very much, I still feel that the first season was the best. I like them being able to explore a wider variety of critters, myths, and urban legends.

IOW, season 6 doesn't have to "top" Lucifer. The threat doesn't have to keep getting better; it just has to be believable and fun to watch.

Fair enough, though I do like an ongoing arc. Of course, that could be something other than a threat to the whole world, I suppose.

I'd wonder how many of their targets would, when they had the Winchesters at their mercy, taunt them saying, "I thought you boys were the ones who beat the devil?"

I so miss that show.

Also, I wouldn't mind if the Winchesters took on C'thulhu.

Re the helmet machine - there's a VERY big brother to this machine that mills motorbike frames out of solid blocks of aluminium (sorry, I'm a Brit so British spelling); I can't seem to find a web site for this so it may have been a one-off, it was shown on TV a few years ago.

I'm sure they'll get more common as time goes on. There's a collaborative project to make 3D printers that use sugar as a medium, and I can recall something like this machine that was made for the Commodore Amiga back in the day (though it could only do blocks of wax, and I think it was limited to being six inches square).

I'm just figuring were one step closer to having those matter replicators Star Trek has (though I'd skip the stage from the original series where food came out looking like foam nodules).

The cupcakes - PIGMANIA! My parents say they still have my copy of that game in the attic, and threaten to bring it out sometime this year. My kids are about the right age to think it's the best game ever.

An MMORPG like Voltron won't work, I'm afraid. The party would spend most of the time squabbling over who would play the head or some idiot in the group will screw up on purpose out of spite that he isn't the head or because it would be funny (which is would be).
Boxers (people who play more than one character at a time, playing the whole party themselves) could make it work, though.

There was a pen & paper game called Mekton that specifically centered around giant robots, mainly Gundam/Mazinger Z type robots, but it had rules for Voltron type stuff, too. Dunno if it's still in print, though.

It's out of print, but you can pick up used copies pretty easily ("Mekton Zeta" introductory rulebook, and "Mekton Zeta Plus" supplement for the fully fleshed-out build system). "Combiners" are covered in detail. They suggest moving everyone to a central control room in the torso rather than keeping guys in the feet ;). Having a crew of several people running the mech lets you take more actions per round than one person solo would be able to perform (several optional rules variations for this).

It's quite a fun game, with playstyles ranging from "high drama" to "very, very silly". Our campaign is leaning towards the silly side.

Actually, R.Talsorian (the publishing house for Mekton Z) is still in business and you can get the books direct from them. The local stores just refuse to carry them for one reason or another.

Just to clarify -- and I know the national media has made this mistake, which is probably where you saw it -- folks in Alabama will tell you "the University of Alabama" is in Tuscaloosa. The shooting occurred at the University of Alabama *in Huntsville*, which has been known as UAH for most of its existence, but recently started promoting itself as UAHuntsville.

There's also UAB in Birmingham, which is the third member of the UA system. UAH and UAB students/alumni like to tease the "main" UA students/alumni that they're actually UAT.

I think every state has that kind of thing going. Here in Missouri we have the University of Missouri in Columbia, but there are three other campuses with the same name as part of the same system.

Nebraska has University of Nebraska - Lincoln (the Huskers), University of Nebraska - Omaha, and University of Nebraska - Kearney.

My understanding is that UNO actually predates the University of Nebraska system as a school. They joined up for the benefits :) (probably the break on land taxes).
