That "technique of the bully" link led to a two-hour detour through YouTube.

About the most odd behavior I've seen is from the head baddie, who ordered the destruction of a planet (which translates to the bombardment of the capitol city) to take out one Jedi, but he's supposed to be an uber-villain so I'll cut him some slack for lacking finesse or a sense of proportion.

Yeah, that's really Malak's thing. He's basically the answer to the question, "What if Vader (with all his rage issues turned up a notch) actually was in control of the whole Empire?" His predecessor, Revan, was much more the astute and devious villain, and Malak just lucked into Revan's scheme and power base.

That makes me wonder what would happen if you had a Sith (or Jedi, I suppose) who thought more along the lines of Terry Pratchett's Lord Vetinari: Devious and not above measured violence and death, but with a larger purpose to creating a civilization/city/empire that produces more than just petty rule by an iron-fisted galoot.

He'd probably turn the Jedi Council into some version of Unseen University, with someone being the Dean of Inadvisable Force Talents.

Force powers and mines anonymous January 8 2010, 03:07:28 UTC
It's been a while since I played KotOR, but I seem to recall that it had the same droid-affecting powers that Sith Lords did. Try using them on the mines - it makes the mines go kablooey. :-)

KotOR was a lot of fun, especially some of the dialog possibilities with HK-47 and Jolee Bindo (I still remember his telling of the young Jedi with the Great Destiny, which turned out to be destroying a bad guy by getting thrown into the engine intake and blowing up said engine). I did like the gameplay in Sith Lords better, especially the part where you could convert some of your buddies into Jedi (or Sith, if that's what you're into), but I was disappointed by the loss of so much story. I still want to help HK-47 hunt down and destroy the HK-50 factory...

I really wish "The Force Unleashed" gave you the option to swap in and out of KOTOR's play-interface and the more arcade-y one they have. I do like Force-tossing things around and wasting stormtroopers by hurling them off of bridges, but the reliance on combo-button-mashing for boss fights made the game frustrating.

And I just found HK-47. I almost think his personality was the inspiration for the "Nextwave" comic book version of "Machine Man," and he himself might be a more violent homage to "Bender" from "Futurama." :)

HK-47 is probably the funniest thing in the whole game -- and that's not a put-down of the rest of the game's sense of humor. He's just so delightfully malevolent.

I played a refurbished old HK droid in a (short-lived) "rise of the Empire" era campaign, and it was ridiculously fun. Though I was less a "snipe them from a distance" assassin than a "cut their brake lines, make it look like an accident" type.

Tip with HK-47; even if you decide not to take him along for the majority of the game; he's worth repairing to hear about some of his old missions. There's a droid who loves his work.
