It may be interesting to note that when I read the linked summary of "Call me Joe", it reminded me very strongly of Manta's Gift by Timothy Zahn - enough specific points of similarity that I wonder if the latter might not be a tribute. A tribute written with more recent knowledge of conditions on Jupiter, but... In any case, if it does, Avatar won't be the first thing to borrow ideas from "Call me Joe".
It kind of reminded me of "City" by Clifford D. Simak, specifically the bit where humans discover that when "altered" to survive on Jupiter, men find it a paradise and enjoy expanded consciousness.
Hmm... now that I think about it, it's almost like Plato's allegory of the cave or the bits of Buddhism I vaguely remember: The philosopher or "enlightened one" experiences a higher level of understanding, then returns to tell others about it, usually with negative results.
It wasn't for using Skynet that he sued, though I personally think he should have done as the concept is not far off of the setting in "I Have No Mouth Yet I Must Scream
( ... )
If nothing else, I love Harlan for being the science adviser on "Babylon-5" and for giving Isaac Asimov so many funny stories to tell in his "Asimov Laughs" books.
Annoyingly, Moon got a very limited release in the UK, the nearest places to me were over an hour away, so I didn't get to see it. Need to keep an eye out for the DVD release; meanwhile, director Duncan Jones (David Bowie's son) is campaigning that Sam Rockwell be nominated for an Oscar for his role in it.
As to the film, I read the press kit and I'm pretty sure I know how it all turns out (broad brushtrokes and heavy hints throughout), but I'd still like to have been able to see it on the big screen!

I'm not sure if this is just me, but accessing the Nodwick and PS238 sites through Firefox is sending me into a permanent loop through the Gamespy Advertisement page (e.g. clicking on the "Continue to . . ." link sends me right back to the Gamespy advert page).

Odd. I can still get in, but maybe it has to do with the recent server migration? Maybe a DNS server somewhere is trying to send you to a place that's technically "elsewhere."
