I think she more or less is under the impression that it's too much because one of her friends got something cheaper. If she was happy and showing it off, she certainly liked it, but perhaps now she's just trying to get away with not paying because she might think it's okay because you're a friends daughter or some other nonsense, :/

I think the picture is really cute. And I agree--if she was showing it off, then she liked it. People don't show off things that they think are sub-par.

So I think she really does like the picture, but says she doesn't so she can get it for a cheaper price. Either way, that's a terrible way to a person to act, expecially to the daughter of a friend.

I would tend to agree with that assessment. She had a verbal 'contract' with you and you send in progress reports to her via email, asking for changes/additions if she wanted to make any before the final work was completed. By showing it to other people she had tacitly.

As another commentor already pointed out, paint and supplies, and the work that went into that very nice painting is worth money.

It seems that she is trying to get out of paying what both parties agreed was a reasonable sum.

I would hope that this does not affect your future artwork.

WTF? I'd say you are definitely entitled to half-- you gave a price and she agreed to it, therefore she should pay you. And she showed it off? No way she doesn't like it.
