I'm massively excited about d_c_m's hafla tomorrow night (though, sadly, it may be running without d_c_m as she is sick, poor thing. People I know need to stop getting sick!).

I am performing a solo--to a remix of "Whatever Lola Wants" since my mom loves that song so I want to dance to it for her--and I am also performing with Different Drummer so we can ( Read more... )

We should add belly dance photos to this ever-growing long list of photographic possibilities...

It's comforting for me to hear that with all your experience you have doubts about your abilities. I'm trying to become a more technically proficient belly dancer but when it comes time improvise I worry that I'm doing the same things over and over.
I love watching you dance!

I doubt myself all the time... I guess I have a pretty loud inner critic! ;p

Anyway, I also watching you dance... it's great to be part of a community of such unique and talented dancers! btw, if you're interested in it, I'd love to have you drop in at my belly dance classes at Windfall, since I do plan to be working on improvisation more in class...

See, I'm comfortable in my expressive dance nature, I'm just not confident when it comes to the technical side of belly dance! Until it comes to ATS, and then I'm in no way shape or for confident. I don't trust my ability to remember the moves nor am I confident that I put them together coherently.

That's totally understandable--it takes TONS of practice to become comfortable with a movement vocabulary. And ATS is pretty unique and pretty dissimilar to everyday movements, so it makes sense that it takes a lot of adjustment. The key is practice. Lots of practice, and lots of repetition, until your muscle memory builds. See, this is why I like to drill my students until they hurt--not the bad kind of hurt, but the good kind of sore muscle hurt. :)

Why yes, now that you mention it, I loathe holiday music... but it is much more palatable when it comes from a goth label (thank you, Projekt!).

I couldn't agree with you more.
